That stat makes sense once you think about it. You get the best record by having your depth starters get wins. In the playoffs, your 4 and 5 starter probably don't see much game time. Whereas the team lower down the ranks, like a Seattle this year have a 1 and 2 starter that are better than the first place team. Depth wins you the regular season but the better top 3 starters wins you the playoffs.

Slightly off topic but I's argue that baseball is also the most affected sport by fluke plays. What I mean by that is a batter can just crush a line drive right at an outfielder, and another can hit a little nubber or bloop that gets them on base.

Anyway yeah in baseball, the "best" team wins a much lower percentage of the time than most other sports. That's why I don't like the short nature of a playoff series compared to the ridiculously long regular season. Playoffs don't give a good representation of the reg season. I would like to see the season shorter and playoffs expanded.

The Rangers didn't deserve to win the 2011 World Series because Nelson Cruz was afraid of a wall. He's the one you should be angry at.

Sox game is being played under protest, can't remember the last time that's happened. But Farrell is way off, I think.

But Xander took 2-3 steps in order to get to second, so it doesn't read "neighborhood" to me.

I dont think the neighborhood is an actual rule, so it's a complete grey area. I didnt see the play, my initial thought is that if Bogaerts did anything that looked out of the ordinary I could see not giving him the neighborhood out.

Yeah that's how I understand it. It's not so much a rule as just a part of the culture. But I thought they couldn't replay the force at second?

Eh. Hamilton hit a 2 run homer in the tenth and Feldman gave up 2 runs in the tenth. They were one strike away (again) in the tenth. People always forget that. Plus, there was a game 7 as well. It wasn't just Nelly.

But yes Cruz should have made that play.

I think what Cruz did was worse than Buckner. Buckner rushed a play in an effort to beat a fast runner and botched it. Cruz was just too much of a pussy to run into a wall to get a World Series ring.

IMO, if you miss a play because you didn't have the balls to play as hard as you possibly can, then you don't deserve to win it all.

That play singlehandedly changed who I was rooting for in the series. I wanted the Rangers to win and then didn't.

I've always wondered why Cruz didn't become "the guy that cost his team a World Series" the way Buckner and others have. He's basically skated on that whole thing, which I don't get.

Correct but they blew another 2 run lead in the 10th after the Hamilton homer. Game 6 of the 86 series didn't go to extras.
