The DM boots so far had me craving some good old covers.

I've had this compilation playing in the car for a couple of days now... Not the best sounding versions, and no audio tinkering to make any of these covers sound better... Just a dump of covers in mp3.
I am just past the halfway mark, and blasting these in the car has been a very pleasant reminder of how good the boys are at their job.

Just started to listening to the NA tour, bold thoughts here. The band sounds better at the Missoula show that any other show before it on the 2024 show.

But still very good. DM songs sound great. Lots of good quick transitions. Especially at the beginning seems like MC's drumming patterns were different.

Man I haven't heard Long Road in a while. It sounds pretty good but man it is so different from the old versions lol, it's so loud now!! I had just recently watched the video of him playing with Neil Young after 9/11 so it was a bit jarring.

Curious how this show stacks up to what was the best show for ME on the tour (Fenway 2). Ive heard this one might have been the true best. So Im curious, but I know that the energy doesn't always come across on recording as much as in the building

Low Light sounds nice, they have some interesting guitar flourishes in it now. But man, 30 years into their career and Pearl Jam still can't figure out live backup vocals lol. If they could get somebody who knows how to sing those they'd be elevated.

Eddie sounds good on these though

LOVE Low Light fading right into Why Go. That's a way to kick up the energy! That was a great moment.

My god the band is on fire for Why Go, Brain of J, React/Respond. The people weren't kidding about this show. I can't imagine how it felt in the building.

I think the band energy in the back leg of this tour is especially good?? Like they are hitting a crazy level that I haven't heard in a while just from an energy perspective (which really helps with the more limited vocals). Like they are completely bringing it in energy.

LOL.... after React/Respond he calls out a boy in the crowd who is only 7. He says that that kid knew all the words to the song, and he's impressed. "I don't even know the words to that song" he says.

God. Wreckage is a contender for my favorite song on the album but it just is the worst one from the album live i feel like. The ending is so amazing on the album and so poor live

I thought the Wreckage at this Philly 1 show was the best I've heard so far at first because it had a nice tempo to it (the atmosphere is weakened from the album, so giving it a bit more speed helps a bit to keep it moving).

But man that ending. The amazing background vocals are butchered live and Eddie can't hit the notes. The wonderful layered last minute on the album is just a mess live <_<

Eddie sounds rough on Night 2 in Philly <_< Sounded good on night 1, but night 2 the hoarse huskiness of his modern day voice really shows itself.

Just listened on Sirius XM to 10/1/05 in Atlantic City New Jersey. A great show and the first time they played Gone as an Eddie solo version, which of course sounds great. But something very weird happens.

Near the end of the first set, Eddie says the next song is "Leash". But he gets interrupted by Stone Gossard. I guess they messed up and actually "Don't gimme no lip" is next. When Eddie says Leash is not next after all, the crowd boos. Then Stone does Don't Gimme no Lip, and don't get me wrong it sounds pretty good.

Afterwards you can hear random people in the crowd yelling out for Leash, but instead Eddie gives a speech and goes into Breath.

Throughout the show you can hear smatterings of people yelling for leash, and "Drop the leash!"

Finally as they come on for Encore 2, the whole crowd is loudly chanting "DROP THE LEASH! DROP THE LEASH! DROP THE LEASH!" It sounds very loud even in the boot. They so badly wanted him to play Leash. Eddie listens to them for a while and says "you guys are incorrigible" and then says "maybe next year". They end up going into Spin the Black Circle . At one point he changes the lyrics to "Droppin it dowwwwn, liiike a leash yeaaaaah"

They never play Leash.

WHY?

Why did they not just do Leash to make the crowd happy? The third to last song in this show is U for god's sake lol. They had already played Bee Girl. Why not replace U with Leash?

Going back to 2005, the last time they played Leash was 1994. So thats not a song that was in rotation on the tour or recent years that they could play just because people were chanting it. Maybe Matt even not know what song it was. They only started playing it again in 2006.

Also this song sucks.

Pedant's note, they also played Leash in 1995 with Jack but only once.

From memory, the guy who held up the "PLAY LEASH YOU PUSSIES" sign was in 2003 - it was already an established fan meme by 2005, Ed was just playing into it.

It's important to note there was a whole bunch of early period songs they'd effectively retired by the mid 90s: Wash, Blood, Glorified G, Why Go, Deep, Satan's Bed, etc.

For the better part of a decade, those songs didn't get played at all and it seemed most likely they never would again. It was a huge deal when they played virtually all of them on the 2003 tour however Leash was still on the shelf until they finally brought it out again in 2006.

The fact they consciously played all of those retired songs but not Leash was definitely a point of conversation. It seems funny now but it seemed pretty inconceivable that they'd ever play it again.

"Who You Are" was the one that felt really pointed. When that came back in 2008 it blew my mind

ahh yeah, those year were everyone expected Leash and it just didnt happened yeah.

Im a huge fan of the song, so when they belted out in 2006 again i was over the moon. In 2005 the rumor was that the band rehearsed and didnt quite liked how it went. Thats why ed was all like ¨remember the feeling¨ and stuff. Some folks said it wasnt the same without Dave A, which might be true after all.

Im really happy they are playing it from time to time, and i hope i get to see it live next year.
