My brother text me tonight saying that his 15 year old daughter was dissed at school today by a girl who said she wouldn't like a playlist as it was "too Indie".

He asked me to put together a quick list of 10 current, suitably 'alternative' songs that she could use to throw back at this music snob.

It was an interesting excercise. What are some songs you guys would suggest?

I appreciate the intention here, but I think your niece would be better served by a lesson along the lines of "listen to what you like and fuck everyone else."

Yep, like I said, this was really just for fun. My brother made comment that he was asking me because his eldest daughter "thinks she's hip but tends too much to North Western US balladeers" whilst his son "likes One Direction (say no more)" and he himself is "long passed (his) use-by date".
