yeah that was the best part of the show for sure
reminded me
i saw paul mooney at caroline’s one frigid dark cold winter night years ago
sitting at my table, show about to begin
right before mooney takes the stage, Eddie Murphy briskly walks in with Ed Norton Jr and they sight just to my left like 6 feet away
there was like 1 table separating us
show was hilarious and accented along the way by seeing and hearing eddie murphy laughing along
nothing like watching the show and laughing and then hearing eddie’s distinct high-pitched laugh ring out as well
later i smoked a cig out front in the set break and lionel richie walks out and lights up a smoke too
he wanted nothing to do with me
was awesome they are all so black
i am so white

First half was strong aside from that bizarre, energy-draining swap out of Eddie for MAGA Hanks during Jeopardy. And I don’t think any musical artists who played Friday should’ve had another number tonight.
The rest was mostly awkward, wasted time. You could feel the weight of 50 years in the lack of energy. Lorne all slumped over, frowning onstage at the end, looking tired, was the perfect personification of how the whole thing just tailed off.
Anyway, Cher and Brandi Carlisle won the weekend.

Amy and Tina's Q&A was the funniest bit for me.
2nd was Update.
3rd was Alien abduction interviews in a tie with Scared Straight
History of NY was fun too.
There were a few laughs throughout the rest but with that many moving parts, timing always seemed off. Not waiting for the audience to finish with the laugh before delivering the line, guests flubbing their lines/ not reading the card and so on.
Some tech issues too: Sabrina and Paul's mics were muted after their song so their "Live from NY!.." got missed. I could barely hear Will Ferrell over the music. Lil Wayne's mic when down about 20bd after the intro to his song. The camera switch was late so we saw Tom Hanks jump into the sketch before the reveal (them re-using the same lines he had the first time he did Jeopardy fell flat).
I don't envy the producers with having to juggle that many people for 3hrs.

I enjoyed it. Really the only thing that didn’t land for me was Debbie Downer. Other than that, I laughed at least at something in all the other sketches.
Murphy as Tracy Morgan and also in Scared Straight were the absolute highlights. Him breaking after Ferrell got out there was golden. And that had to be special for Morgan to be standing right next to Eddie Fucking Murphy playing him. I can’t even imagine.
Wish we could’ve seen Jane Curtin, Aykroyd and Chase in something. Murray fucking killed on Update. And there was practically nothing from the ‘86 cast. Lovitz was in that bit with Tina and Amy, but that’s it.
I did find it odd some people were in more than one thing.
All in all, a great and fun anniversary.

Finished this tonight and I largely agree with this. They did an admirable job of keeping things light and joyful while also acknowledging current events. I do think it's important to laugh and celebrate and it was very enjoyable to see different eras work together.tragabigzanda wrote:Thought the special was great.
