this debate right now should be more like:

do you believe in rule of law?

do you believe in civil rights?

then vote for us!

Maybe - and hear me out here - everyone on the American “left” (an extremely broad and loosely defined label) doesn’t want the same things and doesn’t think this election is about the same thing.
