When my dad passes (9hopefully not anytime soon!) im going to start a petition to the Boss to get him to play darlington county
I think we are pretty much on the same page. There is no way I'd go especially if we planned a whole vacation together around that concert. I wouldn't find it therapeutic or being a tribute personally. I wouldn't enjoy a second. Then his guest has to be thinking that he/she is filling the shoes of this guys dead wife. On top of that he is almost setting PJ up to be assholes if they don't play it. If my wife was battling a disease and was philanthropic towards fighting that disease i would be doing something to help that cause.McParadigm wrote:Yeah, like I said, I can understand why someone would appreciate or empathize with his plight. What makes it hard for ME to get is basically this: if that song was important or special to you/her, you've got it....forever. If going to see PJ shows was your special thing, well...you're going to one. You know?Thejambi wrote:Thinking about Pearl Jam concert a week after your wife dies just seems odd to me. Based on his post i think a better tribute would be to work with the 10c to possibly auction the tickets off to the National Kidney Foundation.
Now, my dad and I shared a love of Neil Young (I've even got a recording somewhere of us dueting on Four Strong Winds), but if he and I had planned to go to a Neil Young concert before he passed, I wouldn't even register the IDEA of trying to get that or any other song played at the show. I might not be registering the idea of the concert at ALL, for a couple of weeks. But honestly, if I did think about it...I doubt if I'd even still be going. I'd probably treat it the way you would if someone got too ill to attend. "Okay, this was supposed to be you and me...so if you can't be there, then I guess we'll sit it out." That's just the way I would feel.
To each their own, and all that, but "hey shit I'll go to that concert anyway and ask them to play that song for me" is right up there with "I'm gonna get a tattoo of my own last name" on the You Don't Make Any Sense to Me meter.
I don't know. I'm taking my kid on a mini-vacation to go see Blink-182 in two months. If he died between now and then I think I'd still go on the vacation. Thinking that being on the trip would give me a chance to go through something that should have been done with him without a lot of the regular stresses of life being there. Allowing me to have moments of saying "you should be here but you're not, goodbye" while on the trip. Not sure if Blink-182 had meaning for me that I could do the show, just think that would be emotionally overwhelming. I wouldn't say I'd be setting up the band to be assholes but I have emotionally invested a lot of myself in music and like Jack Daniels, it has been with me thorough pretty much every step of life since age 13. I think I'd just be hoping that the music could come through and support me one more time.Thejambi wrote:I think we are pretty much on the same page. But like you said "to each their own". I don't know him or what his dynamic was with his wife.
But then you'd have to buck up the big bucks to get him buried in one, like the song says.Strat wrote:or Cadillac ranch...
It's actually the same as EST, and one hour behind EDT.stip wrote:it is one hour behind est, I believe.

Apparently between 5 and 7 you only experience acute embarrassment accompanied by low level orgasm.Thejambi wrote:McParadigm wrote:I worry that the genitally-focused aggression is really undercutting the emotional plea, though.
