Joe refuses to watch Top Gun: Maverick for reasons unknown
Tommy compared the feelings Maverick elicits to watching Jurassic Park in the theater for the first time
Joe said he was underwhelmed by Jurassic Park, cited the name of the wrong Greek philosopher to support his take
Argo... uh... I'm not sure how Argo is involved, I think he just wanted to call Mickey a pedant
Off in a diifferent thread, Mickey continues antagonizing Ms Harmless over something innocuous

Mickey then showed me his ass. I'm not sure what I was expecting. It's exactly what he said he was going to do.

Maybe both of you should do a Nope - Top Gun Maverick marathon evening together.

I didn’t like it. Too paced; the first forever part of the movie was very ham handed about creating tension and mystery - like nearly to the point of me abandoning ship. I also didn’t care for Kaluuya’s ridiculously understated part/performance. He says like ten words the whole movie.

Ah ok, you've seen it. I hope I'll like it better than you did.

the character interplay / dynamic between Kaluuya and Palmer was incredible, I thought; Kaluuya being driven and ambitious but socially anxious, outwardly hurting; Palmer being apathetic about the business but an excellent public speaker and an electric personality; I loved everything between them and how full of contradictions they were

and how much they needed each other, which for me gets its big release catharsis in Palmer's big emotional crying scene, where she finally speaks no words but understands everything

He's absolutely perfect in the film. I know that guy. I grew up around that guy. He's nails it.

Kaluuya is a star. He doesnt need to be flashy to fucking get you.

And even if Nope can be trying a lot of things and have mixed feeling, its a different movie. The scope Peele is working is out of this world. Its cinema from the 70s, 80s, 90s.

He is one of those now rare auteurs working at a huge scale making whatever he wants.

Watched Louis C.K.'s Fourth of July last night (twenty-ninth of august). It was good, but seemed to feel a little rough around the edges. Gonna have to give it another view, was a little distracted.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
