These types of emotions are barely registering at all in rural America. 9/11 spawned Toby Keith songs. What COVID19 will bring us is more partisan divide, especially if our efforts to social distance bring the projected deaths down under six figures. If that happens you'll hear things like : the liberal media was just trying to take down Trump, ect.

The 9/11 death count comparison isn't particularly relevant outside of NYC. Most people in the US have been on a plane, most have not seen a pandemic.

I think the six figure death count is really more emotionally important than actually important (if by some miracle we avoid that on a national level). Now if it's mostly confined to NYC and Northern Jersey (roughly 50% of national deaths so far), I think that would be more relevant to Verb's post because the disproportionate concentration of major media in that area means it's effecting them and their presentation of news/entertainment/etc. in a way that many other places can't relate to (at least not yet and hopefully never will). They will be unable to calmly, objectively report with their own safety in turmoil. If this does lighten in the next 30-45 days, I can absolutely see more of those "empty hospital" videos going around on right wingnut sites.

CT hasn't called it off for the year yet, but no one here expects schools to open before next Fall. Very strong rumors that an announcement is imminent. I'm sure this will be true in the entire north east (except maybe northern New England).
