I have as well. I think I liked the idea of them trying to make a song like that more then the song itself.

I only really like the jam.
It's fine out of context but it feels like a completely disjointed mood from the bookends of the song. The lyrics give no support to the tone changing so drastically.

Was there a version with lyrics that don't sound like placeholders?

I can only judge on what's given. If there was a vocal part in the beginning of the jam or another section in there I think I would like it a lot more as a total song. I think it comes out of the jam nicely. Maybe actual lyrics instead of hee he hees.

Those fucking hee hees, I hate em so bad. The lyrics have always sounded so unfinished to me that I wouldn't be surprised if later versions or a studio version sound quite a bit different, when ed figures out what he wants to do. The only reason I remember not liking the jam a whole lot is cause if I recall it just sounds like thier standard rvm jam I might be wrong though haven't heard it in.a.while.

Guys, he's singing "bees". It just sounds like "bee-hees" because of Ed's recent tendency to add extra syllables to words. It's completely appropriate for a song about the Earth. Bees travel from flower to flower, having sex with them and therefore pollinating them, never aware that their whorish tendencies are responsible for keeping our ecosystem alive. The jam is supposed to represent the bees having sex with the flowers.

I don't think Pearl Jam knows what good Pearl Jam is anymore, and that scares me. I think they're having a mid-life crisis.

I think everyone always had a different idea of what 'good Pear Jam' was, and that's part of the problem. You can't possibly be in a band as diverse as this, and then later on settle on one direction (no pun intended) that everyone is going to be happy with. That's what they've tried, and it's made them jacks of all trades, masters of none.
