Evan dando really was one of the more excellent songwriters of the last 30 years. I think what held them back was that he never quite put it together for a whole album and released a masterpiece. They got kinda big I guess, but a lot of that was down to the cover of Mrs. Robinson. Lemonheads weren't just a singles band either and a lot of their best tracks are deep cuts on albums. He also battled drugs and quality control at times. But when he hit, it hurt and it stuck.

I heard Ne Me Quitte Pas by Nina Simone for the first time today and I wept. Holy shit. One of the most perfect recordings I've ever heard.
