Where's our radio chart update guy? Haven't heard from him in a couple of weeks... been hearing this on the radio quite a bit in central and northern California.

No disrespect meant to THE McParadigm - tough to go back through the threads during a busy work day.

Just beginning the downward slide. It's at 33,000 plays to the first single's 40,000, right now, though its peak audience was slightly larger.

I'm glad I can freely comment here about my boredom with this song...

From a locked thread on the pit-

What I see is "Sirens is the epitome of blind loyalty and fanboy-ism(?) of this band (along with Ole'). My God you are all fucking nuts to think this is a good song, let alone a song this band should be associated with. For fuck's sake...." This prompted the above also-rude comment.

That is an attack on the song and the fans who like it. Don't do that again...leave other people alone and Mind Your Manners. This is the last word in this thread on this problem. Please review the Posting Guidelines, thank you.

Remember in the 90s when everyone got into Pearl Jam as an alternative to cheesy 80s ballads?

a few weeks ago, some dude on the national radio talked about "how hard it is to be a grunge band in 2013" and played a snippet of Sirens to show how badly some Seattle bands have aged and he went on to make Bon Jovi comparisons. i was a bit angry at first since i know that this song isn't representative of how PJ sounds and that it's not as cheesy as a Bon Jovi ballad but it made me realize that, like it or not, Eddie and Co. went there and used the power ballad medium and released this song as a single. the worst thing about it is that it's not even a hit. talk about making a fool out of yourself. that song would have been perfect, honest and heartfelt had it been stripped off the gloss and clichés of the genre.

Maybe not elsewhere, but it's done really well in the US...especially by rock band standards.

As to whether or not that translates into long term memory...well, that's another deal altogether. But Just Breathe was about the same size in 2009, and is still among the most downloaded/streamed Pearl Jam songs of the last 6 months.

New territory sonically with that a 12 string acoustic featured so prominently, a first for PJ if I'm correct. The words are beautiful, the melody works into your brain. Nice selection for where to use background vocals. Mike's solo is great - and he switches guitars mid song to do it! Then Eddie takes up the 12 string rhythm - which is a very un-Eddie like part.
AND HE SWITCHES GUITARS MID SONG TO DO IT!

What kind of premise is that? It reminds of kids discussing if PJ is grunge enough to be considered real grunge. I mean it means absolutely nothing. A lot of opinions about music are either childishly superficial or pretentiously idiotic. It's like when people reduce the quality of a song down to how difficult it is to play on guitar.
I agree with you about Sirens but i wonder if they really care about commercial success as much as some people assume they do.
