Well, you know...you aren't going to win an argument with an asshole by handing them a lollipop. You have to be an even bigger asshole...somethng Democrats have yet to learn...and something Republicans are constantly taking full advantage of.

Or just wait and get replaced by a new batch swearing to change Washington next election.
It was smart for Ryan to pull the vote, though. Less chance of putting a bullseye on yes voting Republicans.
Ryan didn't pull it though? He warned trump and trump pulled it. Which is genius because now he can blame everyone else and take credit for not allowing a failed Heath plan rip of millions of American
I heard it was Ryan. Don't know for sure though.

Well in that case it would make Trump look a lot smarter, so I probably heard it on some socialist rag like Huffpo.

T: "I'm bored with this. No more edits to the bill."
R: "But that's our process. It's how you get the buy-in needed to get votes. They spent months doing this with Obamaca-"
T: "LALALA NOT LISTENING VOTE NOW VOTE RIGHT NOW!"
(Moments later)
R: "We don't have the votes."
T: "Vote anyway."
R: "Sir."
T: "Fine done pull it."
Someone somewhere: "The guy's a strategic genius!"
T: "Hey who took my tractor? WHERE IS MY TRACTOR?"

There really is no way to spin this into a positive for Republicans. It's a colossal failure that after seven years they had their shot and couldn't do it. Trump barely got his hands dirty in all of this, unlike Obama who shepherded his bill through the party and got it done. I'm sure Trump, given his obsession with comparing himself to and outdoing Obama is feeling this sting pretty hard this weekend. This party made repealing Obamacare THE cornerstone of their agenda for seven years and when they finally had the government in their hands, they had nothing. If Democrats don't at least take back the House next year I'll be shocked.

Can anyone briefly explain to a dumb foreigner what exactly is Americans problem with every citizen having equal access to healthcare?
Genuine question.

Well, every political party and politician to a degree treats their base like they are idiots, but I'm not sure I've seen people treat their base more like idiots than the Republican Party is doing so now.
Whether you agree that Obamacare is a shitshow or not, it's unarguable that this has been the Republican white whale for years. Repealing Obamacare is the reason Republicans kicked ass in 2010, in 2014, and undoubtedly contributed to Trump winning the White House. Politicians, without exaggeration, have told constituents thousands of times this law was wrecking the country, that it needed to be repealed, that that was the reason Republicans get into power in Washington.
And they do it. Republicans get more power than they have in decades, they hold every branch of government. And the Republicans can't get their shit together enough to get enough people on board to repeal when it actually counts, coupled with a master negotiator president who actually seems to make things worse as he goes. And after dozens of successful repeal votes when Obama was president and not one when Trump was president, everyone gives up:
"I will not sugarcoat this, this is a disappointing day for us," Ryan said at a press conference following the stunning announcement. "This is a setback, no two ways about it."
Ryan admitted that the Affordable Care Act, enacted seven years earlier almost to the day, "remains the law of the land... We're going to be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future."
And what does Trump say in response?
“Time will tell. Obamacare is in for some rough days. You understand that. It’s in for some rough, rough days,” Trump said.
“I’ll fix it as it explodes,” he said. “They’re going to come to ask for help. They’re going to have to. Here’s the good news: Health care is now totally the property of the Democrats.”
Speaking of premium increases, Trump said: “When people get a 200 percent increase next year or a 100 percent or 70 percent, that’s their fault.”
He returned again to a partisan line on the turn of events.
“To be honest, the biggest losers today are Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer,” Trump said of the House minority leader and the Senate minority leader. “Because now they own the disaster known as Obamacare.”
So now many see this whole thing as a pretty obvious sign that most of these people have been full of shit for seven years. But as a Republican partisan, or as a Trump supporter, I'm not sure how they could not see their reps treating them like shit. What about that poison law that you've been talking about for years? Eh, we couldn't get it on the first try, so on to tax reform! What are we supposed to do about this law? Eh, I'm just going to let your premiums skyrocket to stick it to Nancy Pelosi.
As I said, all politicians do this, it's just amazing to see Ryan and Trump treating their base like such idiots, without much pushback (as of yet).

That is a dissertation level question, but in my view it comes back to how we educate our kids. It's a broken bureaucracy that prioritizes the wrong things and so we get young adults that can't think critically about big pictures issues and see past their misconceptions about political parties, capitalism, and the social responsibilities we have towards each other independent of our various intersections. IOW, we don't still see each other as people.

Every citizen in America has equal access to healthcare. It's who pays for it that is the issue.

People who spent their whole lives poor and working their asses off are extremely jealous that people who haven't worked as hard will have access to healthcare, or even worse, they might have to help pay for it. It's all mean-spirited, selfish stupidity.

Or working class citizens are tired of being forced via government violence to foot the bill for healthcare for the poor, who contrary to popular socialist belief, are not the hardest working group, All the while being told that the working classes are the problem by the privileged liberal elite who think themselves virtuous because in their warped worldview, forcing others to give up their property and liberties for groups they deem oppressed is the same as charity.
