can't it be both? from what i saw, all we know was that that guy was a human (maybe one of the first men). the humans came in, cut down a bunch of their trees, and threatened the children's existence. so they created the white walkers to counterbalance the humans.

I took it as they used that guy to be the first of the White Walkers, who became the Night King. It was a quick scene that could have been a lot longer.

Yea, that was my impression also, but I think the others are right that we're filling in holes without any solid evidence just yet.

I think he's the first Other, who may or may not be the Nights King. The show Night's King and the book Night's King seem to be two different entities.

i think he's the same in both. he was the 13th lord commander previously, which means the wall was already in existence when he was around, and the wall was built to keep the white walkers north.
