I'm of the opinion that a movie should be self contained, or at least the movie series should be. I don't want to hear about how I should read the books or whatever. That's a filmmaking failure as far as I'm concerned.

Well, i agree to a large extent. No doubt. The Lord of the Rings was perfect with this balance.

Solo, quality and opinions aside, does not succeed or fail on people being familiar with expanded universe stuff.

Its not a fanboy thing either. I would not sit here and say its a GREAT or even a good movie but gosh darnit i had a lot of fun watching it.
This is close to where I am except I believe most casual viewers wouldn't catch half the fan service mentioned.

My 2 big hang ups with the movie are that Thandie Newton is wasted. And the physic of Enfys Nest seems inconsistent from the train scene to the desert scene.

also....

Moof milker? Ugh. They didnt need to put that in there just to tie it to TFA.

Also, was there anything ever in the OT about Han's dice? Why did this become a thing? They shoe horned it into last jedi because they knew he would have lucky dice in the upcoming solo? Am i correct on that?

Or were their lucky dice in the falcon during the OT?

That's kinda condescending, no? Just because you don't watch "a bunch of cartoons" doesn't mean they aren't important, valuable, and artistic. It's all part of the universe. They want to bring more fans, who like you, are dismissive, of the animated series into those stories. It's a good tie-in. If you don't bite, big effing deal. But some people will and they're experience will be richer for it.
just saying it's pretty damn out of nowhere if you only watch the movies and not a bunch of childrens cartoons
The Clone Wars is as much a kids cartoon as The Empire Strikes Back is a kids movie.

Cool. I get that. And I don't disagree. But in the case of Maul, there is a reason for the criticisms people have brought up. And if you want to explore that, you have the option. If you don't, then don't. Who cares?

But I'm also not sure how many people out there who only watch the movies think, "Man, Darth Maul sure is cool. You know what the coolest thing about him is? He only has two lines! Boy, I sure hope he never speaks more than that."

You can see the dice in A New Hope.

I don't care what most people think. Silent killers have been a staple of "cool" menace for a long time. Of course suddenly talking a bunch would deflate that.

I just never thought of Maul as a silent killer. So, of course, yours isn't an issue that I share. I'm sorry these movies let you down, LV. I'm kinda shocked you even bothered with this one.

My friend and I pretty much have a pact to hate-watch all of these new SW movies in theaters. We already sat through TFA and TLJ, and this one was inevitable.
