I don't see it being on the album but it may be a b-side. The song is enjoyable enough but it's not one I ever knowingly play. Perhaps a studio version may change my mind but I highly doubt it.

The outro is fantastic and if extended on a studio album....for it to segue into another track would be excellent..

You people are high not to like OTE. All you people do (yes, all of you) is piss and moan about shit like the Fixer and tell horrible unending "jokes" about puttin' a little fixin' on it and when they come through with something that deserves to at least be taken seriously (if not worshipped in a specially made PJ Sunday Funday school) like OTE you simply can't be bothered and start nitpicking shit like the outro is good but the rest is meh. Fuck that shit.
Of The Earth!! For the fucking win!!

For the record : I love the song...i just REALLY love the outro and think it would be a great link to creating an incredible mood (that has been missing from the last two records) to a subsequent track and overall vibe to a record.

I don't believe I have ever made a derogatory comment about Backspacer or any of its tracks, or made a "fixin' on it" related joke. Actually, I'm not sure that I've ever commented on Backspacer at all!
My feelings have been hurt.

I really like OTE but I also like to make jokes about The Fixer. I'm conflicted!

I actually like all of Ole, minus most of the lyrics. the last minute is smoking though
I love it when Matt's drums kick in at the beginning
If Olé was on backspacer it would probably be of my favorite tracks. I just like this little song, great lazy solo (almost an anti-solo) by Mike.

Maybe this should be in the admit something thread but I like The Fixer. It's a damn good pop rock song. My younger self would loathe this older version admitting that but it's a good riff and a strong song.
My issues with OTE stem from a leaden riff with fairly unimaginitve drumming. It plods along until EV tries to do a Daltrey. Then they have a jam which is the best part. Then back to the leaden riff. It's a 3* track for me. I never skip it but I never put it on.

the live versions made me curious about a studio version that I think I might like a lot (I'd want to see it included on an album) but I've only listened to a live version a handful of times. Maybe because I only heard audience recordings.

I've been hoping there's a track expanding on the outro since I heard the song too.
I always wished there was more of the not for you outro too, and present tense should have been all....outro, but I digress.
I'd be interested in hearing a studio version, but not if it's taking the space of another unheard track on the album. I just want more new music

Also ed has to cut those 'hee hees'/nonsensical yelling near the end of the jam.I dunno what he's trying to do but it doesn't sound good.

Well, it really depends on which version of OTE you listen to. The Dublin version was grungy and great, but the next five were pretty average and more backspacer-esque renditions. The energy was sucked right out of it. Pensacola last year was somewhat a "return to form" for the song, but I still think it needs another verse and a few less "iiieeeeee" parts to make it album worthy.

I liked OTE good enough, but I'm gonna wait to judge until I hear a studio take of it. Also, I rarely go back and listen to it, so as of now, it doesn't have the wow factor for me. Having said that, I like the vibe of it better than anything on Backspacer, so if this is the direction they are headed in, that's a good sign to me.

I remember reading an article back in March or April of 2006, might have even been February 06. In the article Mike answered a few questions about their new album. I remember Mike going on and on about a song by Stone and how great it was and excited he was about it. That song was OF THE EARTH.
Reminds me of how just a couple of months ago Mike was hyping up a new song penned by Vedder called 3.2.1. He even went on to describe it as very "Motorhead-ish".
3.2.1 is not on that track listing that everybody is questioning

And before Binaurla, Mike was talking about his favorite song from the album, "Letter to the Dead". Didn't even make it. Maybe they should listen to Mike more.

The entire first third of the song is a generic s/t era stomper riff with a vocal that does nothing to sway, strut, or shake you...leading every 30 or 40 seconds into a "this is our first draft so we'll write something better later" chorusy 'thing' that tries for little more than what WWS already did, but is too slow and plodding to achieve it. The middle section is a guitar solo that sounds lifted from a Blue Oyster Cult live album (which is not a bad thing, but hardly a reason to get all orgasmic). This leaves...what? That little cool moment right before Plod the Destroyer comes back to lay waste, where the band goes for catharsis but Ed can't hit the notes, and the wicked shit at the end that should be a little longer but, knowing Pearl Jam, will just fade out on record after all of 2 seconds.
