Sorry, two of the examples here are Extraction and Six Underground, both bottom-of-the-barrel Netflix offerings?

I think Jorge is right that most movies are incredibly flat, even if that flatness looks stylized because of CGI, visual effects, etc. Maybe part of what Trag is referring to as the fundamentals that are missing includes fundamentals of compelling camera work. Thinking too about the number of movies that have digitally assembled single takes but which are visually boring even despite this gimmick (e.g. Atomic Blonde, if memory serves).

Also, and I'm sure only Malloy will be with me on this, but I don't think this has much to do with the expectations generated by someone like Bay, and has everything to do with new financial pressures.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

What's most upsetting is that it could've been so good. All the pieces are there, and individual scenes are breathtaking. But as a whole it feels like an empty farce, fully out of its depth

Blonde is not a disaster. It's also not exactly a success. Ana de Armas was absolutely fantastic, and I think that without her this movie would've crumbled in on itself and not worked on any level. But she is so good and so real it holds some strained pieces together. It's tough. Dominik was saying "look at how cruel you were to her", but I think he's also cruel to her with this movie more than a few times. It's bold and beautiful and Ana de Armas delivers

I actually have a lot more thoughts about this movie and its (lack of?) complexity, but I'll think on it more and let others see it first before posting again.
Do watch the movie, though, it's not something you should avoid
