Not a ton of movie making happens in CA due to 1) high cost/ difficulty of doing business and 2) every other location of interest offers massive subsidies.

The state seems to have a reasonable argument here, as these people are behaving a lot more like employees than independent businesses. With being a union and all, is there a claim that the state is missing out on unemployment or other contributions that members of this industry routinely draw on? Seems like a weird carveout that wouldn't fly for almost any other industry, just funny to see them surprised by the change.

What are the local races focusing on in your neck of the woods?

The deep blue WA legislature and governor passed several things over the last few years that were very unpopular. Things like police pursuits and gas taxes. There were signatures gathered on 6 different initiatives seeking to overturn these things. Due to immense public pressure, three of them (as I recall) were overturned by the legislature in early 2024. The others will be on the November ballot where the public vote will almost certainly overturn them and go 6-for-6.

So who do the people of WA support in the primary election? All the same blue clowns who passed the shit they don’t want in the first place.
