I haven’t listened to any of these songs in a long time. From memory, I think I Got Shit is objectively the worst song on this list.

Flip flop Hail Hail and Release and we’re almost identical.
Also, Sleight of Hand is clearly PJ’s best song.

I recently heard the studio version of Release and didnt love it.
I fucking weep like a baby when i hear it live as a show opener but the studio version just feels so ridiculously forced that i just dont relate anymore. I think Ed struggled greatly with hitting the lower register and pushed his baritone to the point of comic relief.
But live.....oh baby.
I know, its weird.

I get that take, but Release is just a super special song to me. It was my favorite song for 15+ years. Including all through high school and college, early adulthood, my happier years of marriage, etc. It means more to me than any song ever. I think Ed sounds incredible on the album, and I don’t really agree that he struggled to hit those notes. It’s definitely at the low end of his register, but as a baritone, it’s not that hard to hit. Ed sounds different mostly because he sang with deeper lungs in the early years. He had a different approach by Vitalogy. And the of production on Ten is distinct on the album version. But you’re right that it’s better live. It’s just powerful as all hell. It took until my last show to finally get it, and I welled up with tears. It’s was an incredible moment for me.
