I cried when Po was all like "Iknow! I'll do some hyperspace skippin'! That's a good trick!"

Steve McQueen was poorly used in this movie.

Really? That's a weird moment to get emotional about. Especially for you. I figured you as more of a "I cried when Brad Pitt smashed a woman's head against a fire place mantel again and again and again" kind guy.

That's an odd take to go with gender, when it was essentially just an assailant trying to kill him

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

And wtf is racist about Bruce Lee getting beat up? A white guy wins a brief scuffle with an asian? Is that all it takes now?

Was it racist when Gene LeBell did it to the real Bruce Lee?

Maybe in a film that isn't just fantasy wish fulfillment and masturbation.

I don’t think it was racist, but it was poor handling of the legend that is Bruce Lee. Would feel the same if it was about James Stewart.

The LeBell story is a good one though:

LeBell was around 220 pounds in his prime and was legitimately regarded as perhaps the best grappler in the world at one point winning national judo titles and defeating top 10 light heavyweight boxer Milo Savage in a mixed style bout.

As I recall it, Gene was initially reluctant to say anything negative about Lee. He has always said that he considered Lee a friend and Lee’s inclusion of some of LeBell’s grappling moves in his films and his book The Tao of Jeet Kune Do would seem to bear that out.

(...)

LeBell says when he got to the set, Dobbins told him to put Lee “in a headlock or something.”

So LeBell went up and grabbed Lee. “He started making all those noises that he became famous for,” LeBell said, “but he didn’t try to counter me, so I think he was more surprised than anything else.”

Then LeBell lifted Lee onto his back in what’s called a fireman’s carry and ran around the set with him.

“Put me down or I’ll kill you!” Lee screamed.

“I can’t put you down or you’ll kill me,” LeBell said, holding Lee there as long as he dared before putting him down, saying, “Hey, Bruce, don’t kill me. Just kidding, champ.”

Some of the all-time great cinema is fantasy wish fulfillment and masturbation

and that scene was cool!
