Somehow, I doubt collective bargaining survives a huge influx of available workers who are desperate enough to be scabs, simultaneous to a measurable contraction of available work.

This is an interesting question, but I would counter that the housing stock in the US is pretty old and it's not like we are flooding the manual labor market by letting in hundreds of thousands of illegal workers that our domestic workforce will have to compete with.
