still don't like the "government" verse with the fancy words and extra syllables shoe-horned in, but... the "rapture" line through to "here and now"? oh, that is the good stuff.
Ed's a poet and I can see why he chose the words he did. "Proselytizing" makes all the sense in the world right there, both in meaning and rhythm/sound.

The government verse feels particularly prescient with Trump’s Covid-19 briefings

well, if you notice you didn't use a youtube link, you used a shortener link. if you use a full youtube link, use the youtube tag with the full link. if you use a shortener link, use the yt tag and just the video code.

Very nice performance. I thought there was a lyrical flub but I think ti was intentional, and made sense.

This will be very powerful live
this is another one of those songs where I really hope I get to hear the Atmos mix they put together.

the sentiment is fine, it's just the delivery that is clunky. imo.

After the Global Citizen performance I spent a star lit walk alone with this one and it finally sank in. I have a lot to explore with it, but I am finally in. This is a beautiful piece of writing and a passionate performance. I'm looking forward to digging deeper.

I just played the entire album twice, but on the second time through I went immediately into Binaural following River Cross. That transition into Breakerfall sounds fucking AWESOME. Seriously, you guys should check it out.

These two albums sound amazing back to back. :luv:

this was better without the add-ins

and the extra verse is unnecessary

i don't hate the album track but it is impure

it shall not be acknowledged as legitimate

Much better on Gigaton than it was before.

Matt adds a lot that I love to this song. It along with Ed’s delivery make the song for me. His playing towards the end of the song is reminiscent of the into to Time by Pink Floyd.

I love the additional instrumentation now. It actually ties the record together and helps it feel complete and cohesive. Then musical choices and instrumentation fall in line and call back earlier tracks such as alright and retrograde (outro). It completes the album and gives it the essence of the band in a room playing the album front to back for you and it telling a singular journey.

Love it.

Yeah, I quite enjoy what Matt's doing here. Glad the band's as involved as they are.

False

The proper intro and first verse is organ-only

I was singing along to this today and I had a good time

I love that this album is a demonstration of a lot of what PJ is best at, including the pretty, moving ballad; it doesn't feel accidental that it takes 4 songs on the back half to make its case, after reminding us they can rock out

couldn't agree more with this post, I love these little callbacks to the sound palette of previous tracks dotted through the album, it really lends a coherence to it

I wonder if this is going to become Jeff's ukulele.

Jeff Ament, "Kalimba Songs." Coming March 2022.
