Albini is a big card enthusiast and apparently bought an item off eBay from one of the forum members, which caused them all to freak out. So he came to the forum and fielded questions. Somewhere in there he has some nice words about Glen and the Frames.

I disagree with a fair bit of his punditry but I think he sounds like an awesome engineer to work with. The above link definitely dispelled a lot of preconceived notions I had about him as a pompous egomaniac.
That is pretty cool

Thanks KD. I'll pass this along.
Thanks again KD. GH was caught off guard for once. Replied '
That's brilliant! Steve is a gem of a man.'
Awesome!

Everyone should get to hear Steve Albini say something nice about them at least once in their lifetime.

This is a few years old, right? 2007? Since then he must've developed a massive chip on his shoulder, since he definitely comes off as a lot more open and affable than what I've read from him in recent years.

Electrical Audio, Steve's studio, has its own forum and he posts there a whole bunch. He seems like a pretty perceptive, funny and generally reasonable guy to me.

The audience may matter quite a bit. It's easy to be open and affable when you are talking to a captured audience that appreciates you. recognizes you as the expert and is not prepared to challenge you

Liner notes observation: Brendan's name appears in much larger type than anyone in the band :?

I think it is safe to transition this thread's title to not saying "scapegoat" anymore. This guy has fairly earned the animosity.

After seeing his HUGE name in the booklet, it's just the latest insult to injury.

I find it more funny at this point than anger-inducing. Because I'm listening to the FLAC now and it sounds pretty great to me, so whatever.

From my email box:

"Don’t miss a very special SiriusXM Town Hall with Pearl Jam, moderated by producer Brendan O’Brien."

My response, "Oh goody!" He's becoming my Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!

Good eye. Bob Rock'd indeed. Fuck. Probably helped with all the island music shit that's on the record. Time for me to go start my petition for a new producer. Haha

I don't think it's his production abilities so much as him inserting himself into the band in such a forceful way. Yeah he tickled the ivories on a handful of those earlier PJ albums he produced but nowhere near to the degree he does on LB. Plus he seems to have equal if not more say as to what goes on the album as actual members of the band (Mike had to fight to get Yellow Moon on the record and considering how great that song is that's pretty disturbing).
