Good listen on the whole mess from the London review of books
As the siege on Gaza intensifies, many observers are describing the current Hamas-Israel conflict as a complete overhaul of the region’s status quo. Amjad Iraqi, a senior editor at +972 Magazine, and Michael Sfard, a leading human rights lawyer, join Adam Shatz to discuss the roots and ramifications of the current crisis.

Sometimes we make fun of Persians and Armenians in the US for their love of ostentatious jewelry and gold curtain rods, but they didn't invent this aesthetic when they moved to the San Fernando Valley.

If they maintain this policy for any amount of time, certain areas in the US are going to see significant increases in car insurance premiums.

A two state solution seemed the most likely a long time. Israel has done more to ruin that than the Palestinians.
Maybe a one state solution, with Hamas outlawed is the way forward. Every law abiding citizen able to live in peace. The Jews must be guaranteed an important place in the government of the state, since there is a high likelihood, that Muslims will outnumber them in the long run. Current homes and land ownership must be accepted by all. A united army and police force.
In the short term, I think this is still far from over. Hamas is still in power in Gaza, still holding hostages. A ground invasion is probably the only thing that can change that.
I’ve posted clips in this thread over years and years showing ordinary Palestinians being thrown out of their houses or watching their farms and olive groves burned by IDF and as official Israeli policy. Removed so the property can be taken over by Jewish settlers. Who are usually American as it happens.
They will not be happy until they have eradicated all Palestinians completely.
It’s really that simple.
As with Putin, he wants Ukraine. But he wants it completely without any Ukrainians in it.
But somehow what he’s doing is an evil and Israel is just fine to get on doing exactly the same thing.
My ideal solution for Ukraine is for Russia to get out of Ukrainian land, possibly after Putin dies. Russia have guaranteed for the Ukrainian borders in historical deals, and then suddenly invaded the country last year. Even pro-Russians can only come up with stuff like the expansion of NATO to other countries as a good reason.
I don’t know what your ideal solution to the war in Ukraine is, although likely the same as mine. If we do get a peace deal with Putin in charge, Ukraine will probably have to give up a lot of land. Then a few years down the line, Russia will find another reason, and invade more land. This has also displaced millions of people, half a million Ukrainians reported dead, hundreds (possibly thousands) of women have been raped. It’s a massive tragedy, and no wonder it has dominated the news the last two years. Sadly it is far from over.
The two conflicts are horrible, but also very different.
Israel and Palestine is an old conflict, but we can not disregard what the UN decided, and the situation on the ground after the five day war.
If you think of an ideal solution, I assume you want a lot more for the Palestinians than what is likely, no matter who is in charge of Israel.
If you think of a negotiated settlement to end the conflict for good, then what is your solution?
Agree completely with you on Putin. That’s exactly what he would / will do in any negotiated peace. I don’t have any answers to that
As to Israel though?
There is no Hamas in the West Bank, and it too is an open air prison. With the same barbaric conditions and human rights violations. Just doesn’t get the same amount of coverage at all owing to no Hamas.

Twitter / x has had the EU come crushing down on it just this week, to eradicate all false information and take down fake videos etc. (tik tok and fb have too). They’ve told Musk if he doesn’t comply with the new information laws they’ll be talking 6% of his entire revenue. Not income, revenue.
So musk in his infinite childishness is now considering pulling twitter from the eu completely
We would not be sorry to see it go.

Control the narrative and shutdown any flow of information you can’t control.
(Surprised this hadn’t happened years ago tbh)
Israeli govt approves move allowing it to shut down foreign news channels -- "Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi has led the charge to pass these regulations in order to shut down the Al Jazeera news channel, which he claims has damaged national security." https://www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_ ... a-offices/

On a normal day, before all this, it’s usually around 400 trucks of food water and other kinds of aid that are brought into Gaza. Bearing in mind it’s an open air prison and no manufacturing or means of production of food is possible as it’s not allowed.
The epic 20 trucks of aid pledged by the US and the standard UN aid agencies trucks are once again today still not being allowed in to Gaza despite agreements made with the US and Egypt to allow them in.

And Israels back to hospitals we didn’t bomb but here we are telling another one, we’re about to.
After claiming it had nothing to do with bombing a hospital earlier this week, Israel and IDF are threatening another hospital in Gaza today.
"The IOF demands the evacuation of Al-Quds Hospital, a sanctuary for over 400 patients and around 12,000 displaced civilians."

The same people that have killed over 4000 innocent people in the past two weeks, are still angry you’re still blaming them on bombing a hospital. When they frequently and continue to bomb hospitals.
Over 4000 people killed. But they’re not people according to those doing the bombing.
They’re legitimate targets and just the cost of war
