This and Getaway are the two rockers from LB which stand up to their very best. Love the bridge on this one and the way it goes from that to Ed screaming at the end.

I'm convinced - you and I are kindred spirits with the exact same taste in music...

...except you like that stupid Little Lion Man band.

Probably the best combined delivery of lyrics/vocals on the album

Comes close to it. I'm sticking with Infallible for now. Man, even Pendulum is delivered just perfectly. Basically, Ed is on fire on nearly all these songs.

I'm talking about the combination of both though, I think the lyrics in Pendulum are great but the delivery is just good. Whereas this just nails both aspects perfectly. Infallible is good but all the stupid "yeaaaaaaaaaaaaahs" ruin it a bit for me

Yup

A few of those and you're good to go.

Well, I love everything about Infallible so we'll have to disagree there :) That outro is the bomb.

Pendulum is actually delivered brilliantly considering the song's atmosphere but it's not the most difficult vocal for Ed to nail.

"I'm living in a war-torn place.
Hear the bombs, a 5th symphony."

I guess that clears that one up!

Any guesses on what he means by "volunteer amputee"?

I'm getting rid of you, cutting you off, as if this father was a metaphorical arm or leg.

I think there's some really good old metaphorical Ed writing on this album. It's like someone's said "Dude, stop telling shitty stories."

I gave it 3 spins... same verdict. What a mess.

What do you guys hate about it? Genuine question, to bring some perspective.

I just thought it sounded terrible from the start. I don't put a lot of thought into why I like or don't like songs as many people here do. It just sounded like a mess to me, with no aspects of it making me think "wow that was cool" or "that sounded awesome." The jarbled vocals are what I disliked most. When I actually get the album and can skip through tracks I'll give it another spin.

I don't think "Jarbled" was the word I was looking for... I think I just don't like the lack of vocal melody here.

This whole album is very strange to me. I expected to hate Future Days, and was hoping for some off-centre songs, but I actually enjoy Future Days and hate My Father's Son. Go figure.
