Ed is obviously a great guy cause Rick worked for him for seventeen years.
But Rick is obviously a hack as a tech cause he's only been one for, what, thirty years?

Ruddo, I know he wasn't up to the job, I've seen ed lose his shit at him numerous times and
Worst was Manchester 09 where he physically was throwing glass beer bottles at him and screaming at him. He obviously wasn't able to do the job.
If it was this bad the whole time it makes no sense why either of them worked together for so long

That's the problem with hiring your pals or giving people you know a leg up.
Just look at their gig posters recently. Hiring random artists to help them out.
Noble idea, but results are Fucking awful almost entirely.

oh give me a break. it's shockingly easy not to treat people like shit.
I thought so too. But apparently we're wrong.
You people must have been treated extremely well throughout your lives to consider what happened in that split second being treated as shit.

I've never been treated like that in public, no. I would fall out with anyone who treated me like that in front of 17000 people.

What's funny is that you said Ed was violently throwing glass beer bottles at the guy because he obviously wasn't a good guitar tech. No word of the possibility that Ed may have an anger / drink problem.

There is actual footage of it. I wouldn't know where to look nor am I bothered to sadly.
Harmless. I haven't been reading the thread. Ive no interet in either of those issues I'm afraid. I'd say Internet addiction is at least as frightening as alcoholism.

If when I was a server I was asked to run something by a manager standing in the middle of the dining room and as I got to him he turned away and dropped the plate on the floor in front of everybody, I'd consider that being treated like shit by an employer.

Had the band chosen a different singer in 1990, they probably still would have been famous, they are that good. But Pearl Jam has a lot to do with Eddie Vedder. If he's in top creative form, the product will be good. If he is not, it won't. I don't see how any Pearl Jam fans can deny his contribution and effort in being an integral and vital part of making some of our favorite music. The fact the Eddie had a huge say in Vitalogy, and probably even more in making No Code, is not a negative. That's a positive.
I disagree because they were looking for more than someone to sing on a bunch of songs. Do i think they needed Ed to make it big? No, but they needed someone with skills and talents similar to his. It's a complex issue. I think they always needed someone to turn "ideas" into songs to be able to release albums with a normal frequency. It's silly to argue any of them can't write a song, mostly because it's not difficult do begin with. I think that if either Stone or Jeff had the skills to tell the rest of the band what to play they would have done exactly what Ed did, they even had the legitimacy do to so.
This is just my opinion BTW, i don't have the arogance to think my impression is wrong.
The music for Ten was just about finished when Ed came in. Temple of the Dog is another example, all of current Pearl Jam with Cornell as vocalist. It was a bit different from Pearl Jam and Soundgarden due to being a sort of Andy Wood tribute. But Cornell is someone who could have done a great job on Ten, and could have brought in great tracks as well.
With that said, I love both Ed and Chris.
Temple of The Dog went kind of nowhere initially. I remember reading that it's started selling only after 10 became popular. It's actually what i was thinking while writing that post. It initially sold only 70.000 copies and consider Soungarden released 2 albums and had a grammy nomination at that point.
I haven't listened to the gossman project demo in a while but i know part of the songs were essentially finished but they didn't have melodies or lyrics for that matter. Again I'm not arguing they aren't capable of writing songs without Ed i sense that at least at the time they needed someone who were able to bring more than the vocals to the mix. Vocal melodies alone can pay huge roles in how a song ends up being.
Ten obviously didn't have lyrics before Ed, but the music was more or less finished, and they first taped most of the songs in their first week together. Although they did return to the studio later to rerecord and brush up on songs.
TOTD had no tour, little promotion, and while the music is good, it was made as a tribute, changing the sound and mood somewhat. However, both the music for Ten and what Chris was writing solo (Seasons) and with Soundgarden was very strong at the time. No doubt they would have been great together.

I'm just saying that isn't as big of a deal on a relative scale. I'm not defending what Ed did even though he didn't do it just for the sake of it, it was still a childish thing to do but still there are so many worst ways of humiliating someone in public or in that same context that i just don't get the outrage.

Not that it's relevant, but I DJ. Most clubs are closed during the day.
I'm glad you think internet addiction is at least as frightening as alcoholism. It means you've obviously never had to watch someone you love have their life destroyed by that debilitating condition. You should be thankful for that. It's a painful thing to watch. You're a lucky man.
