I'm interested to see how they wrap stuff up in only two episodes, hopefully it doesn't feel too rushed. The first 3 episodes with their slow crawl and vaguely dream like quality are still the best for me, I could have watched an entire series of that.

Agree 100%. I watched the first 3 back-to-back-to-back and at the end was just like, holy shit

Also, I agree that the 'weaker' episodes will flow/stand up better in a binge rewatch.

I agree. The problem is they set the bar so high with the first four episodes. I'd say episode 6 was still better than the best episode of Season 2 of House of Cards.

I think this show works best when it dabbles in the psychology of the characters and lets the mood and setting take over. I know at some point you have to deal with the case/plot at hand, but I think the other stuff has fallen away too much and been replaced with standard cop show shtick. The fist fight was stupid. And Marty's new girl didn't really do much of other than say, "Fuck me in the ass." I would have rather of spent that time delving into Rust's state of mind.

Particularly disappointed they didn't do more with Rust's visions.

That being said, I still think the end could be something special.

Yep.
Spoiler: show
I loved this last episode. What father wouldn't want to go all Marty at the beginning of the episode. The fight between Marty and Rust was very well done. Rust and Tuttle's conversation was also great. I loved when he said "dead women and children" or whatever the line was to him. Very tense scene.

I'm trying not to focus too much on what the characters are doing but more what the character says about us and what the writer is trying to convey regarding it.

I watched episodes 3,4, and 5 in one sitting. Now THAT was an experience.

Of course it's too early to tell, but I think this show is the most potent, offbeat procedural in our popular culture since The X-Files & Twin Peaks.

I can't imagine another season ever topping this one though.

im pretty sure we already have 4 nominees

woody, matthew, spacey and steve buscemi

its the last season of boardwalk empire, no way he's stepping out

also the last season of mad men, the guy who plays Don Draper is fantastic

maybe the guy who plays Tyrion on GOT

thats it i guess

life is a flat circle
Your love, your hate –-

it's all the same thing

it gathers me in the same web

entangling me with empty promises.

and like a lot of dreams

it made a monster at the end of it.

This is a world where nothing is solved --

where time is a flat circle

and everything we ever do, or have ever done,

we do over and over and over again.

Where you touch darkness

and darkness touches you back.

I really liked the last one too. It's been a great watch and there's no reason to believe the last two won't live up to its predecessors. I'm particularly interested in the 2012 interaction between the two.
Didn't Helen Hunt win an Oscar & an Emmy in the same year? I can see McConaughey doing the same. But as you guys have said Woody's had the less flashy role but he's certainly held his own.
psychobain wrote:im going to miss next episode, Carnival here, damn

wont watch it til tuesday
Same here, heading down to New Orleans tomorrow for Mardi Gras so it will be Wednesday before I watch. True Detective is certainly the show I'm most eager to catch up on when I get back.

I don't see the minister behind the chick Woody was banging unless he knew Woody was a fan of T Mobile and at some point would need a new phone. That would be some Bond villain level planning.

Assuming it doesn't completely come off the rails the next two weeks, I put this show in the category of Homicide and The Wire in the upper echelon of television dramas.

Yup. Best show since The Wire.

Im afraid Game of Thrones is going to feel cartoonish after watching this.
