if your stomach can handle it and you're looking to add muscle (and not concerned with adding a little bit of fat as well), drinking a gallon of milk a day isn't a bad idea.

Yesterday I walked 2 miles with the dog, swam for an hour and a half and walked another 5 miles after that. Today I drank and ate to make up for it.

Your back? Are you sure your technique is correct?

Although I have heard that "crunches" are better for your back than sit-ups. I just wish I knew what they were.

i have a spreadsheet that will calculate what your BMR (basal metabolic rate) is, what your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) is and then your TDEG (total daily eating goal)

it asks for a variety of factors

weight
height
dimension of wrist
neck
forearm (palm up)
waist
abdomen at navel
hips with your feet together
one thigh with your feet 2' apart
calf

it uses all these to determine your body fat and place you in an average as far as goal weights from the various formulas that are out there

if you want it, just email me at jerry.peoples70@gmail.com. its very thorough (probably about 7 tabs) make it up and the guy who created it is a triathlete

Got aother 10 minute mile tonight, and actually got to 1.1 miles before having to slow to a walk, but then i just walked till i called it quits at 15 minutes.

Like i said, my goal at the moment is to get to 2 miles in 20 minutes, and i was wondering if there is a better way to work to it? Should i stick with around 6 mph which gets me the 10 minute mile, and try to go farther when ever i can, or should i pick up the speed and try to get the mile quicker to help me build up the stamina to go farther? There may not be a wrong way but was wondering what the distance runners here think

Doc, i am no expert, but this helps me. Start running at an incline. Try a 1.5 or 2 incline. It will burn, but I am pretty sure it will increase your leg strength, and since the incline isn't too drastic, you'll probably be able to still do the ten minute mile, or you'll do it soon. When it starts to hurt and you can't go on, drop the incline. I swear, for at least a couple of minutes it will feel like you're running down hill. In fact, I usually increase the speed because my muscles want to push a bit and I starting running into the bar. T2B often talks about a kick at the end of his run. This is how I get one.

I will also vouch for this method. Also is great to do on the treadmill because running on the treadmill sucks. So might as well push it harder for shorter amount of time. or at least change it up with an incline.

Ill post my ski stats and talk like a bro, too.

Ill have to give that a shot, though so far since im only running straight through for a mile or a bit more, my legs are usually good, but my breathing sucks, i get winded so fast and that is what im fighting and making me wanna start walking, im definitely outta shape, but could also have a bit to do with it only being about a month since i had pneumonia.
