And that's where the lyrics from Alive really come from. But they thought a song about a dude who fucks his future self was too weird, so they made it about a mom and made Ed take credit for it.

I think next Halloween you should dress up like 2015 Marty. I'll dress up like 1985 Marty. Maybe we can get someone to dress like 1955 and 1885 Marty.

Sounds like a good premise for an orgy.

That's right, but what pisses me off is that Pearl Jam, being essentially an indie band at this point, doesn't have to conform to those shitty industry norms (more accurately, "trends").
They aren't really an indie band though. Their last 2 albums have produced 4 pretty big hits and have sold pretty well. They're kinda someplace in between
McParadigm wrote:Really, though, I believe the problem is that Pearl Jam took to a lot of people who had already placed their artistic outliers, and were experiencing late career resurgences that didn't require them to invest as much in the daring of it all because there was no expectation for that to happen. They established to themselves that this was their peer group, and sort of aged themselves prematurely as a result.
this is probably true

I meant "indie" as in "independent".

I've been reading a couple of articles about hd digital music yesterday and of course Pono and with it Neil Young were mentioned. Some say he's a little detached from reality and is surrounded by people who's main occupation is to nod at him. Sometimes i get the feeling PJ is living surrounded by a similar cloud. Weather is their music, the 10C or other business decisions sometimes it seems they don't realise what the hell is going on or what certain things really look/sound/are like.
How *is* the weather in Pearl Jam this evening?

Being "indie" or "independent" certainly does not immunize anyone against foolish trends. I put in the first disc of Eluvium's Nightmare Ending (2013) yesterday after listening to Silver Mt. Zion's This Is Our Punk Rock (2003) and had to immediately turn it down because it blasted out of the speakers, even though it starts with a pretty gentle piano part and the SMZ record is significantly noisier, but obviously not as "loud."

I'm definitely no hardcore acolyte of sound quality, but that, to me, is pretty ridiculous.
