I like Shut Up Kiss Me and one other one that I can't remember the title too but I heard on XM. I'm gonna give the album a spin tonight.Kevin Davis wrote:I thought the first two Angel Olsen singles were pretty crappy, but "Sister" was good. Her lyrics are a big stumbling block for me.
Have you heard her previous album, Brad?

The Hop Along record is really fantastic.Kevin Davis wrote:These are both from last year but have you checked out Hop Along ("Painted Shut") or Laura Marling ("Short Movie")?
Most of my favorite albums of 2016 have been of the hip-hop/R&B (Rihanna, Chance, Kendrick) or jazz (Mehldau/Redman, Iyer/Smith) varieties. Or other instrumental miscellany (Mogwai, William Tyler).

Kim Gordon's "Murdered Out" single is the best song on 2016. It's a fucking MONSTER.

Bob Lind is a 73 year old former 60s folky who has had a bit of a late career resurgence. He's released "Magellan Was Wrong" this year and lyrically it's quite the treat. If you can get past his vocal similarities to Neil Diamond (or perhaps that's just my ear, dunno) this is a damn fine album.
Here's the opener I Don't Know How to Love You, which is a pretty good take on the album:

It was a serious question. I don't really get what they're going for... that sounds like it could be a comedy songcontamination wrote:Why don't you just say what you think.theplatypus wrote:Are they a comedy band?contamination wrote:

Is anybody sucking Anderson .Paak's musical balls yet? "Malibu" is certainly AOTY material for me. Anyone? Hello?

Yeah I like him. Malibu is cool. I also like the track he did on the Snakehips EP, "Money on Me". But I get a kind of will.i.am vibe from the guy, and it's not just the punctuation in his name.

I'm confident this is going to be the best album released this year. This guy rules.

I really like "Haw." Still discovering him beyond that -- is the new one out yet?

Oh man, if you've only heard Haw you're in for a treat. It's a great album but I rank them Poor Moon > Lateness of Dancers > Haw > Bad Debt. New one comes out Oct. 7 I believe.Kevin Davis wrote:I really like "Haw." Still discovering him beyond that -- is the new one out yet?

Re: Albums of 2016
I liked "Haw" a lot better than "Lateness of Dancers," but I'm not really fully "into" him yet so that may change over time. My favorite songs are probably "I've Got a Name For the Newborn Child" and "Sweet as John Hurt."guestT wrote:Oh man, if you've only heard Haw you're in for a treat.
