I freaking love Jebediah - such a fun live band I've seen countless times over the past 25+ years. Not the best Aussie band out there but definitely one of my favourites.

Bad for You and Aqualung are a great pair of bookends to this album and newish ground for them. My album highlight Rubberman certainly is :nice:

That album has been getting a surprising amount of airplay from me this year. Like you say, great opener and closer with interesting filling like that piece of cruisiness. Well entrenched in the regular workday rotation at this point.

@ello and @rangi. Listening to DoubleJ this fine Friday morning and they played their usual hour-long Friday "Desko" (the disco at your desk!) and the theme was Noow Zuland. What are your thoughts on their chosen tunes? Reasonably representative or crapola?

Sway - Ric Runga
Party Boy - Marlon Williams
Cruise Control - Headless Chickens
Can't Get Enough - Supergroove
Punching in a Dream - The Naked and Famous
Walking Off a Cliff Again - The Mint Chicks
Home Again - Shihad
Wandering Eye - Fat Freddy's Drop
Slice of Heaven - Dave Dobbyn
That Life - Unknown Mortal Orchestra
How Bizarre - OMC
Cameo Lover - Kimbra
Jenny Morris - Break In the Weather
Ladyhawke - Paris is Burning
Howard Shore - The Bridge of Khazad Dum (lol - honarary New Zealander)
Not many - The Remix! - Scribe

Theme was inspired after Neil Finn did a 'Take 5' on the station the other day, so little surprising there's no Crowded House in there. I personally though cannot excuse the egregious exclusion of the seminal banger "Counting the Beat" by The Swingers. I'm thinking of writing a letter to the Manager I'm so incensed.

Looks about right. Good call on The Swingers. The Mutton Birds is another glaring omission.

Aside from Headless Chickens and The Mint Chicks, there's not much Flying Nun representation. The Clean, The Chills, Straightjacket Fits, Chris Knox/Toy Love/Tall Dwarfs, Die! Die! Die!, Betchadupa, The D4 etc.

I would personally have added some heavier shit like Beastwars and Jakob, but I understand they're probably not the most radio friendly.

Our popular music kind of sucks. Australian music generally shits all over ours.

Coterie are my hometown Perth boys, are they not? Wait - just checked - NZ boys who grew up in Perth.

I remember hearing this track here and enjoying it - the vid is shot at Scarborough Beach just down the road from where I live. Had plenty of pissy nights there as an underage lad waaay back in the day.

Summer vibes.

I struggle with a lot of this BBQ reggae. Needs to be some genre fusion, like how Kora adds electronic and metal elements. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good, but it has been done to death.

All I’ve heard is L.A.B as I had to use one of their tracks. Alright for 15 secs I guess.

I might try to get a pass for this.

Yep, I hear you there. It's OK as background filler but more *something* would definitely be nice.

Its funny cause I can listen to a full Fat Freddy's Drop album no probs, but I couldn't do a full album of this tyoe of stuff (like Ocean Alley et all) without getting bored soon enough.

The Bures Band's new one is reasonable, dripping with CSNY vibes.

Caught a recommendation from a dude in a record store last weekend: Mt Mountain.

Band's from Perth, not sure if they're still active but they sound lovely.

NZ suffers from an oversaturation of forgettable BBQ reggae and cornball metal that Stickman would listen to. Australia on the other hand stands up to the US and the UK in terms of overall quality IMO. Very impressive for their (relatively) low population.

Both of us kinda suck at hip hop tho.
