An interesting stat I read somewhere: Only one batsman has faced more than 100 deliveries in this Test. Crazy.

At one point, both Rogers and Warner (first and second innings respectively) were in with a chance of breaking the oldest record in Test cricket for the % of runs scored by one batsman in a single innings.

If it ends tomorrow, which it will in all likelihood, that'll be 11 days for 3 tests.

Fairly comfortable in the end. Nicely set up for the remaining tests.

First Ashes test without a century since Sydney 2007. Remarkable considering there have been 4 and a half series since then

We obviously underestimated Finn, which is disappointing. Congrats on the win, Evvo.

2 spells of bowling won the match. Anderson in the 1st innings and Finn in the 2nd.

Congrats on the lead. Anderson will be missed a lot.

Good on ya man. Still all to play for. A decider at the Oval would be great fun and Jimmy could be back for that. Wood is likely to come back in for Anderson which isn't a bad replacement but Wood and Finn are change bowlers as opposed to being given the new ball. Most teams would miss a bowler of Anderson's calibre, particularly in England and at Trent Bridge where he has his best figures at any home test venue.

How do you see Clarke's future after the series? He can't buy a run at the moment

I think they will/have to stick with Clarke through this series but they'll drop Voges for S Marsh. Maybe even drop Clarke down to #5.

The stress is starting to show on him but most of his captaincy and decisions have been sound. Maybe a bit quick to act but that's as much a plus as a minus. Also, in terms of actual tests played recently, he scored a hundred in Adelaide in Dec then missed the remainder of the series. He has failed in 5 tests (2 vs WI, 3 vs Eng) but he got a 47 in one of those and didn't bat in one innings. And of those 5 tests Australia won 3, lost 2. So it's not as bad as M Taylor in the 90s or other captains. Sure it's a slump but it's being whipped up by the media, and because it's an Ashes series (and they're losing).

Both teams still have frailties and the bowlers to exploit them. Losing Harris was massive, losing Anderson will be massive too. 3 matches in and the damaged heap contains: Harris, Watson, Haddin, Ballance, Anderson.

Almost time for this thread to gain another page.

Sunny with patchy cloud cover around lunchtime. Good toss to win. If Aust bat first I think Warner will try to get on top of Anderson's replacement (probably Wood). Lunch score of 0-110 if Aust bat or 2-75 if England bat. England will want to be aggressive but Cook will play his natural game.

Bring it on.

There's almost no runs. Extras is top scorer.

That's unreal. Just checked the score at the airport and can't believe it. Dare I say it, England's session

And the sun is out. England should be safely around 150 in front by end of play.

All over on day 1 yet again. Congrats evvo. Enjoy it.

This has pretty much been my only thought for the past 4 hours.

I can't believe that performance.

You can hear Warnie positively seething in the commentary box.

From 0-97 to 4-140. Not good enough Australia.

England have been fantastic too.

Other than that one Test, England have been excellent and Australia have been woeful. This has been a catastrophic series and I want it to be over now.
