Neko Case not happy with the fawning over Glen.

I've never listened to a single Glen song all the way through; never saw Once; never saw him open for Ed. I hold NO opinion about him because I have literally nothing to go on.

But I've been a big Neko Case fan for years, and she does not fuck around.

There's been mutterings about Hansard for years (some were even briefly mentioned on RM) but nothing that ever rose beyond rumors from what I can tell

I don't really know what to make of this. I'm just sorry to everyone grieving

yeah, even if what Neko Case is saying is true, and i get why she might get pissed about everyone talking about Glen now he died, i get a little icky about the timing of her newsletter to say the least.

I dont ever listened to Case or followed her at all, so i dont quite understand were that comes from, nor i also dont quite listened to Glen or followed him through but respect to the mourning families and friends of anyone should be a priority in any case.

Damn. Nemo laying it out.

based on my 5 minutes of research on her wikipedia page, and reading her newsletter rant, my analysis is as follows:

- she appears to have an immense amount of bias against male humans

- this bias appears to be a common theme in her art

- a 31 year old male made a bad sexual comment (joke?) to her once on a rock and roll tour

- that male later got handsier with someone else than she thought appropriate on that tour, but it's unclear if the others there who witnessed it felt the same way

- so maybe she was biased by her sexist rage and assigned a degree of malice to those events that wouldn't be assigned by a less-biased person

- maybe Glen's good deeds and positive impact and behaviours toward people vastly outweigh the unpleasantness of those discrete events

- such that maligning him at his passing (25 years later) is immature and shameful (to say the least)

not sure who neko case is but i'll set a reminder to talk shit about her when she dies.

I understand why fans of Hansard would choose to turn away from these accounts - it's confronting when your connection with an artist or their art is at odds with their actions and your personal values.

Many people in the Dublin music scene aren't happy with the fawning over Glen either

I've listened a lot more to Neko Case, and her band, than Glen. I love her music.

I think, based on her blog post alone, talking bad about someone that just died, over what she wrote, is in bad taste.

I never understood this view. I hope people feel unencumbered to get anything off their chest when I kick it.
