Also, there were reports of them writing/recording with him a few times over the last 1-2 years.

Pearl jam have never worked too long on a record, they have just not released albums frequently. It could just mean "Lets get in and make a fucking record" And that has been a year long process.

And then, it might mean, instead of tracking each part over and over and over again...he got them in a room to bash out the songs...they have labored over.....and get good first or second takes

One thing that sounds promising in relation to the success of DOTC, is that it wasn't a song that a band member brought in to be worked on. That was them tinkering around in the studio, with each of them adding their part, which sounds like what we've been hearing about the writing process on this new album.

100%. If they took the "grip it and rip it" approach with someone like Rick Rubin or Tony Visconti, I'd be very intrigued. I have negative faith in Andrew Wottman and only hope to be proven wrong.
