The 6-string bass on MFS is in the left channel, on the chorus.
Fun fact: the explosion sound on "Brain of J" is Mike throwing his 6-string bass across the room.

I love that this album isn't just awesome because of Backspacer sucking so hard. It's better than 1/3 of their catalog and could potentially grow.

Pearl Jam's epic, rain-delayed set at Chicago's Wrigley Field in July won't be the only time the band connects with baseball in 2013. A partnership with Fox Sports will include extensive use of 48 Pearl Jam songs across the promotional and music beds for this month's World Series coverage, set to air Oct. 23-31 on Fox, and feature the group's music throughout November as Artist of the Month across all Fox Sports properties.
Swing and a miss!
Nah that's cool. I watch the MLB playoffs.

Lightning Bolt easily jumped over S/T, Backspacer and Riot Act for me, but I have been struggling to anoint it over Binaural (and No Code in a lot of ways). So I decided to play the first song from each album ,then work my way through each album that way. Well..it became a no brainer for me at that point. Lightning Bolt > Binaural.
Next up - No Code.

So do I, but I think most of us were expecting some sort of live performance announcement. Hopefully this isn't it.

Are you guys listening to this just so you can figure out where it ranks?

I'm not ready to rank it yet. It is doing a lot of things that I like a lot though so I think it's going to find a pretty high place.

For me it may actually jump over VS.
Also is it just me or is Pendulum WMA's grandson?

That has become the game for me! haha
Truthfully? I didn't think they'd put out an album that contended with the front four I love. I liked S/T, I liked Backspacer, I just didn't find enough in them to regenerate any drive to really get to know the songs. Gone were the days where I had to know the lyric to a specific song. If I could make it out cool, if I thought it was something else...cool..I just went with whatever I had. This album has changed that..Ive gone back to dissecting the songs. Its refreshing! So to that end, I've decided it needs to be anointed properly and not just slapped as the one after the last one!

Perfectly explained. I love that quite a few here seem to feel the same way.

There's a few songs on here that have gone places I wish others had.
Like if you equate MFS to a song like Evacuation. Both quirky. Well MFS goes to the place I wish Evacuation had. Its really hard to put to words about why or how that feeling exists.
Definitely can see how Pendulum could have been born out of a jam surrounding WMA.

I hear you guys. I'm really enjoying it too - and, really surprised that I am considering how down on the band I've been for several years.
But, I just can't assign any kind of ranking to this album yet. That will take awhile for me.

For me, the first 7 albums are sacred and untouchable. But LB is much better than S/T or Backspacer in my opinion. It's the best post-Riot Act album so far.

But you've had it literally for DAYS! That should be ample time to weigh it against a record old enough to be nervous about high school, like Binaural.

Yeah, definitely can be skewed by new song/album buzz, so the true measure happens later. But it says a lot that I hadn't cared til now to bother seeing how an album stacks up with the old ones. Pretty well every album from Binaural on had been second phase Pearl Jam to me. Still an event, but more out of habit than need. It was almost like following a favorite show on tv or something. Maybe just my favorite show because its still on and consistent.
Their live shows overtook the album fever for me. Lightning Bolt has reversed that at least for today. Given that I don't know if I'll find this ambition again, I'm going to make the best of it.

Yeah, but there's still that inadvertant ride cymbal hit I haven't come to terms with yet. When that's been properly resolved, LB will find its place among(st) the other 9 albums.

Yeah too soon to rank. The last Soundgarden album came out a year ago and I still have no idea where it ranks.
