Re: The Running Thread
I... I... don't know... I count each beer as 300 calories against my 2,500 a day.
600 for 2 beers
250 for my morning protein bar
350 for chicken noodle soup + bread for lunch
That leaves 1,300 for dinner.
Edit: Shit! The glass of choco milk is like 300. So dinner is like 1,000 calories. I knew something was off.

Thanks for the input on diet guys. I need a leg amputation though, so I'm fucked.

Re: The Running Thread
I don't... aren't you running like a hundred miles a week? How do you PUT ON weight?guestT wrote:How do you drink 2 beers/day without gaining weight? Tell me your secret.
I run 25 to 30 miles a week, tops. And it's not uncommon for me to have 2 to 6 beers four to seven days a week. I don't lose a ton of weight, but a ton of weight regularly but I don't put it on either.

I can really eat. I'd probably be fat if I didn't run and that terrifies me.

Re: The Running Thread
Thank you. I’m a Monday through Friday guy outside and mostly do it just to release my annoyance with coworkers. In this cold it’s more a speed walk than run/jog as I don’t have adequate time to warm up and at my age I’m not looking to pull a hammyrun2death wrote:2018 Running Awards

Most disappointing: Me (only one (bad) race, a still-lingering hammy injury and I lost like 5 KOMs that I have no real shot of ever getting back)

I like 24-hour races, but there's nothing that makes me want to run around a half-mile block in Queens 6,000 times.

Do you not really snack at all? I guess if I eliminated the 600-700 calories of snacks (fruit, trail mix, granola, some junk) I eat every day I could drink more.run2death wrote:I... I... don't know... I count each beer as 300 calories against my 2,500 a day.

I'm pretty disciplined in my diet, but it tends to fall apart from 3-7 every day. I get home and snack until dinner, which my wife typically cooks during the week. She's a great cook but doesn't really track the ingredients. So if she makes mashed potatoes it's hard to tell if you're eating 100 calories or 1000 calories of butter alone.
Anyway, back to running. I need to get better at dialing in my paces for these workouts. I have two speeds right now: easy and all-out.

Gauging speed has always been a problem for me as well.guestT wrote:Anyway, back to running. I need to get better at dialing in my paces for these workouts. I have two speeds right now: easy and all-out.
I plan on doing a lot of my speedwork and MP runs on a treadmill this time. It's easier to set the speed and find a nice rhythm without constantly looking at my Garmin.

Re: The Running Thread
My problem is I panic every time I look at my watch and see my pace slowing down. Even if I know I'm supposed to be running at a slower pace, once I get within 10 secs of it I instinctively speed up.
Like this morning, I literally went from 8:25/mi to 6:30/mile in about .10 of a mile. After that it took me the first 2 mile set to get it down to 7:15ish, which is still too fast for my MP, but by then my heart rate was sky high, where it stayed for the rest of the run. Just a bad habit I need to break.

Re: The Running Thread
26 miles on the week. Not bad. My goal was 20. So, I'm feeling okay about it.

It's supposed to rain all night then turn to freezing rain/snow tomorrow. I see a lot of shit eating in my immediate future.

Re: The Running Thread
Finishing up David Goggins' book now. Obviously the SEAL stuff alone puts him on a higher level, but other than that most of the recreational suffering he's endured has been the result of bad decisions and lack of preparation. I'm supposed to be inspired that he ran 100 miles with zero training and finished covered in shit, pissing blood and sludge? Pfft.

Re: The Running Thread
Goggins was "better than average" in the mid-2000s when ultra running was starting to expand, but he was never anything close to elite.
That been said, I'm glad he got his life together and some of his other accomplishments are awesome.

Re: The Running Thread
I figured out what the lap button on my Garmin is for this morning. I like seeing all the splits broken down for each interval, separate from the warm up, cool down, rest, etc. Too bad that level of detail doesn't transfer to Strava.

Re: The Running Thread
Oh yeah. The Higdon plan I followed last winter/spring peaked at 45 miles. If I max out each run this week (some call for a range, like "4-6 easy," "6-7 aerobic," etc.), I'll hit 46 this week...on week 2.
