Maybe it's "3x2x1", the size of a micro-penis. Billy.

So...instead of making progress on the issue you went in to resolve, you decided to stick to things everybody could agree on. Just like every committee and soft-swing party in history.

I don't care what you all say, the Fixer is a pretty good tune. Way better than the crap Amongst the Waves.

I agree with the second part of this statement.

I've made 'Fixin' on it' jokes before. But only because they're funny. Not because I don't like Backspacer. I do. In fact I probably like Backspacer more than most people on this board. The only BS song I can't stand is Supersonic, and that's only because the chorus ruins it. All the other songs are OK to very good.

FWIW, I also liked Of The Earth. A lot of people tend to comment on riffs, and yes, OTE's riff is a slightly generic stomper. But I tend to listen more to the drums anyway, and Matt's doing some quirky and offbeat stuff in that song if I remember rightly. In as much as I listen to the guitar at all, it'll be nice to hear some more extended parts from Mike. It'll be nice to see what they do with that middle jam in the studio. If they do keep it (and that's a bit if) it'll *have* to be more interesting on a studio recording than a live one, as live jams are spontaneous. On record, people get bored if you've not carefully composed your instrumental jam.

And Ole is kind of OK. Pretty good in places.

If they can keep the live / rock production / feel of the two tracks they've leaked since Backspacer, I'll be interested to give it a chance. If they want to go with that shiny pop production again, it's not a deal-breaker for me but they're going to have to write some mighty fine songs to make up for it.

I remember Mike going on and on about a song by Stone and how great it was and excited he was about it. That song was OF THE EARTH.

Reminds me of how just a couple of months ago Mike was hyping up a new song penned by Vedder called 3.2.1. He even went on to describe it as very "Motorhead-ish".

I thought 3,2,1 was a fake april fools day track...i never seen an interview where mike actually mentions song titles for the new album....Of the Earth should be included on the album, they should make it more spacey and or groovy....The underlying issue is PJ needs to jam more

This is still the best performance of the song by a long shot.

Yup! I love the mix on it too. Seems as though it was mixed differently for the DVD. ANyone have a good audio rip of this one?

Me too.
Me 3.

You people are high not to like OTE. All you people do (yes, all of you) is piss and moan about shit like the Fixer and tell horrible unending "jokes" about puttin' a little fixin' on it and when they come through with something that deserves to at least be taken seriously (if not worshipped in a specially made PJ Sunday Funday school) like OTE you simply can't be bothered and start nitpicking shit like the outro is good but the rest is meh. Fuck that shit.

Of The Earth!! For the fucking win!!
The entire first third of the song is a generic s/t era stomper riff with a vocal that does nothing to sway, strut, or shake you...leading every 30 or 40 seconds into a "this is our first draft so we'll write something better later" chorusy 'thing' that tries for little more than what WWS already did, but is too slow and plodding to achieve it. The middle section is a guitar solo that sounds lifted from a Blue Oyster Cult live album (which is not a bad thing, but hardly a reason to get all orgasmic). This leaves...what? That little cool moment right before Plod the Destroyer comes back to lay waste, where the band goes for catharsis but Ed can't hit the notes, and the wicked shit at the end that should be a little longer but, knowing Pearl Jam, will just fade out on record after all of 2 seconds.
TLDR
(but will assume it's a buzzkill flavored with over-analysis)

but seriously fellas this is all prob a moot point b/c everything they've hinted at in interviews over the last few years says OTE is not going to make the record.

i know it hurts to again realize this thread is meaningless but let's soldier on anyway.

i think beth cheated on ed with dave a. discuss.

Finally, a good quality version of this song, thanks. Didn't really change my opinion of the song though - its an okay song, a bit disjointed, and ultimately, sounds like a work in progress. I do really like it from 7:22 to the end of the song.

At the time they unleashed Of The Earth it was a work in progress. And I think there's enough in just the sketches to get me fucking EXCITED for the finished product. I hope we get a fully finished, fully realized studio version of it someday. I don't care if it's on the new album or a b-side or just a random single, or whatever.

It's a really nice track with huge potential to be great.
