Though i don't really listen to much Pearl Jam these days, they will always be my #1 all time. Over the past 30 years only 3 bands have came close to taking over

1. Stone Temple Pilots - 1994 - MTV unplugged, Purple release and tour. They seemed like a band who was going to offer a little more than Pearl Jam was able to. Weiland arrests, drugs etc, ruined it.

2. Foo Fighters - 1997 - The release of TCATS was timed perfectly with my Senior year of high school. I recall seeing them 5 times on that tour in tiny venues, tracking down the 7" series with b sides. They were so cool to me. While There is nothing left to lose is a fine album, it was not what i wanted at the time. And the direction they went was telling of who they would become as a band.
Now, they are a very different band. a band i don't listen to

3. My Morning Jacket - 2008 - I'd passively enjoyed a lot of their music for years but i finally got to see them live on the Evil Urges tour (an outdoor show in Portland, OR) Wow, i couldn't believe how great they were. Then i got the experience of learning the entire back catalog, which was massive. Okonokos and Live from the Palms were untouchable. Still are.
MMJ is still probably #2 for me, but Jim Solo and some of his quirkiness is not for me.

I think they also chose their creative lane and stayed firmly within the lines. Which is totally fine, but maybe doesn't offer as much reward for repeat listenings as does something like Binaural.

I love STP. Their albums are wonderful.

I threw on Tiny Music the other day, I absolutely adore that album. Also listened to their Unplugged today along with a few others, always a good choice when it is overcast and rainy.

Me too, though Jim solo is hit or miss (the Tribute to albums have some good covers, Uniform Distortion/Clarity is outstanding, Regions of Light... is awesome, Eternally Even is really hard to listen to, The Order of Nature is amazing). Okay so mostly awesome for me.

They have also come the closest in the last two decades to eclipsing Pearl Jam but never quite. I still have Z and It Still Moves in pretty heavy rotation, and basically love every one of their albums - even Evil Urges. Something just always struck a chord with me more than other bands of their likes.

That said, without a hint of nostalgia, Pearl Jam is still #1. I wanted more out of them in the Backspacer/Lightning Bolt era, but I still liked it and basically there’s 9 out of 11 albums I love, a b-sides collection I love, countless live recordings I can never tire of, and their side bands that I have come to appreciate more and more in each passing year.

I'm going to start listening to bootlegs by picking an area or specific city, then listen to shows from say like - Cleveland from every year they've played there.

Example:

Melbourne
95, 98, 03, 06, 09, 14

I have 10 shows from Melbourne - this should really keep shit interesting

Cleveland is a place where they’ve performed some under the radar great shows. I saw your post about ‘03. ‘06 and ‘10 are also worth checking out.

The Buenos Aires shows are also good, with some special gems like the first night of 2005.

My interest in STP probably peaked with Tiny Music. At the time they were very much my #2 behind Pearl Jam. I will always love Purple/Tiny Music...i liked the next two albums but at that point there was no risk they were going to become my favorite band.

Oh yeah - the Cleveland shows don't get talked about much but they are all pretty incredible. At the dentist's office with Mrs. Jam & I have to wait then drive home. Cleveland 06 will begin when she goes back.
