Going to go see Triangle of Sadness on Thursday, I think. It seems like this is the weekend where more of the rest of the country gets to see this one. I'd encourage you all to go see it so we can talk about it in the thread later. It'll be better than Blonde...I hope

Should be a good group of movies. I’ve seen a few of them before, but only True Grit more than once, and the others mostly a decade or more ago.

I'm off work today so I spent the morning watching Wes Craven's New Nightmare. Very good. Probably the best since the first one. I'm honestly surprised by how much I like these movies. There were a few duds, but they were mostly all entertaining.

They were a lot more creative than other slasher movies and some of the practical effects were very cool.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

i saw this when it came out and don't remember too much about it, other than it was kind of meta before the became popular. But then I recently read something that suggested it was sort of the prototype for Scream because of the meta approach, and now I want to watch it again.
I remember thinking it was ok.

The Nightmare series is a very cool concept. Not sure if they ever nailed it, but I enjoyed them a lot more than the other slasher trash.

My main issue is that the series can’t seem to decide how powerful/vulnerable Freddy is, and establishes basic rules only to completely ignore them, often within the same 10-15 minutes of screen time. Everything is just aimed at setting up the big effects showcases, and they’re usually pretty good, but not enough to justify the whole 90 minute movie.

Watched Scream (1996) tonight. I think the last time I watched it was about 20 years ago.

Really good. I was a little worried by the run time (90 minutes seems to be about right for a slasher) but it breezed by.

I love how clumsy ghostface is. He's constantly running into doors and falling over shit.
