A friend of mine was a big fan and kept trying to get me to like them, but I never really got them until a few years later, when my life became a trainwreck. Maybe that's the trick to liking them.

I went through a real shift with these guys. Used to absolutely love them; really enjoyed listening with headphones to appreciate their studio trickery, and the songwriting is top-notch. They are a super talented bunch of songwriters, and they know how to use their studio equipment extremely well...But something about it has started to rub me the wrong way, like they're trying too hard to be the modern Beatles or something. I totally get the "hollow" thing. They're not a band that has ever grabbed me by the heartstrings. The song- and studio-craft is what sucks me in. Their albums just sound cool.
