What should I read next?

Conrad Nomikos has a long, rich personal history that he'd rather not talk about. And, as Arts Commissioner, he's been given a job he'd rather not do. Escorting an alien grandee on a guided tour of the shattered remains of Earth is not something he relishes- especially when it is apparent that this places him at the center high-level intrigue that has some bearing on the future of Earth itself.

Recommend me some "forbidden/dangerous" books for edgy teens like myself.

The Alinsky book is pretty boring. The Manifesto can be read in like 30 minutes and is relatively thin on content (I think) but I guess if you've never read it then it's worth it. Nietzsche is only edgy for dog park moms and On the Genealogy of Morality is the same book but better.

Recent edgy books would be, what, The Invisible Committee series? People don't call books dangerous anymore really.

I've read these except for Satanic Bible, though I never finished about half of them.

I don't know if people are aware but it turns out Hitler really hated jews. That book is borderline anti-semitic.

Do you feel it has enhanced your reading capabilities and productivity?

I know there are a lot of Dark Tower fans on here, so I'm hoping some of them can help. I've started Wolves of the Calla, and I'm incredibly bored by it after the first 100 pages. Am I going to have to force myself through 700+ pages or does this thing get better at some point? Am I expecting too much after the excellence of Wizard and Glass?

Oof. Man, I wish I could help you out. Wolves is my favorite in the series. I was hooked from the jump and couldn't put it down.

Sucks that you're into it. But if you plan on finishing the entire series, then you need to push through. It's a linchpin book. So much that came before fand so much that takes us to the end meets and converges in Wolves.

I have an old school Kindle and I love it. I still don't use it quite as much as I do physical books. And I never read magazines or anything like that on it. I don't think it's had any impact on my productivity.

My Kindle was extremely helpful while writing my dissertation, as I could search through books digitally to find small phrases and sentences and narrow things down, highlight passages for later, etc. To be fair, I did most of that through the Kindle app on my iPad.

When it comes to reading for myself, I probably use the Kindle like 85% of the time, and I think it does help me be pretty productive. Even though it's a 10-year old machine (almost), it holds a charge pretty well and I only have to plug it in every two weeks or so for one night. It fits in my pocket so I can bring it basically anywhere where I think I might be sitting for 5 minutes and get a few pages in, whether it be the crapper or a waiting room. I was philosophically opposed to the idea of an e-reader when it was given to me as a gift, but now that seems crazy to me. I have considered upgrading, but am worried if I get something I can also watch TV or browse the web on that it would cause me to read less.
