A friend of mine was at a Seattle Sanders rally recently and spotted Vedder there.
Sanders has captured the minds of many of America’s youths, and when visiting Seattle recently showcased his local appeal when Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder was seen in attendance wearing a pro-Bernie T-Shirt.
“I think we need to fix a lot more about this country than people realize in order to make it a habitable place for our children and their children”, Vedder said. “Bernie has vision and he’s focused on areas of long-term benefit like healthcare and education, basic pillars of a healthy and progressive society”.
Vedder added that he’s “excited” to be able to see Bernie in person, as soon he and his bandmates will depart for a lengthy tour in support of their new album, “Gigaton”, that will see them criss-cross the U.S., Europe, and then back again before the polls open in November.
Regarding the new album’s ecologically-conscious theme, Vedder noted “We’ve got to spread the word about climate change with urgency, and being musicians, determined we should use our platform to get the message out. We’ve got a few thoughtful ballads and spritzy punkers on there that we’re really excited about. This one song, ‘Superblood Wolfmoon’ is basically a re-structuring of this song ‘Supersonic’ we did a while back but way spritzier and punkier. Our hope is to bludgeon the listener with so much effervescence they will literally shit themselves with terror about the pending climate armageddon, smear their feces on their brow as war paint, and join the movement with our beloved friends at Netjets to fight this climate war once and for all.”
“Gigaton” is due out March 27th and will be available everywhere Gilets can be found.
And Jorge has been claiming that he coined the term spritzy punker.96583UP wrote:yeah he wants Bernie

So now the excuse is billionaires can't be taxed because they don't have giant vaults of gold coins in there homes?Bi_3 wrote:Does Bernie think billionaires have Scrooge mcduck style money bins that he can just take from for everything he promises?
At this point I assume you're not ignorant just trolling, but whatever. The issue is that on average billionaires only have about 25% of their wealth is liquid assets. Which means the rest is usually in public/private securities whose value is determined my market forces like supply and demand. In order to pay tax on illiquid assets, you would need to liquidate them (sell them), which of course means that there needs to be buyers for them, and when the seller needs the buyer the price goes down (thus the amount that can be extracted from taxes goes down). I would assume the buyers would be EU conglomerates or middle eastern and Chinese investors.. so our businesses would end up like luxury condos in NYC. The other issue with non-money-bin money is that because it's just ones and zeros on a big computer, it is not bound by national borders. It can move to holding companies in Geneva, Frankfurt, Sydney, Tokyo, Bejing, the Caymans, etc. in microseconds. (Look up the history of wealth taxes in Europe to better understand how the ultra-rich responded.) This is why Warren said her wealth tax plan would carry an exit-tax to keep the money in the US... although no one is quite sure how such a thing would be enforced if the transfers started before the law is passed.verb_to_trust wrote:So now the excuse is billionaires can't be taxed because they don't have giant vaults of gold coins in there homes?Bi_3 wrote:Does Bernie think billionaires have Scrooge mcduck style money bins that he can just take from for everything he promises?
Or start a business setting up foreign companies. Just like the City of London or Vancouver real estate dealers.bune wrote:stop hiding money overseas, right?
Vancouver has been so fucked over allowing so much foreign ownership of real estate. Son's friend is looking at his first place, a tiny one bedroom condo, just under 700 sq feet, about 45 minutes from the city. It will come in at $500k.Bi_3 wrote:Vancouver real estate dealers.
Its a fair point to raise, but it's misleading to suggest that this would be $6T in new spending. Over half that total is due to medicare for all - which is money that people are already paying - and a few studies show would actually reduce spending on healthcare. Most estimates show we spend around $5T per year on healthcare now. If the government could cover everyone for even the same price, then yes, the budget goes way up but the country itself didn't add $5T in spending. I can't understand the way people argue against medicare for all. People look at the price tag and freak out, and say it's too expensive, when it seems the actual problems with it are that it's not expensive enough. If everyone had to charge medicare rates, providers would have to charge less, and since healthcare in so intertwined with the larger economy, it could cause problems. Arguing it's too high a cost isn't right, considering we already have a system too many people can't afford and pay, by far, the most of any country.Bi_3 wrote: I agree the Trump tax cuts should be rolled back and his $160B increase in DoD spending should be removed as well, but let's not kid ourselves into thinking a that and the wealth tax will pay for the $6T per year Bernie has promised so far... and that whole "don't tell me we can't" answer is bullshit. Sometimes we actually can't.
This is similar to the other argument I hear sometimes - if Bernie wins the election, people with wealth with move their money out of the country, or find creative ways to shield it. Good luck with that. Plunging the country into a depression right as you hand the keys over to a socialist is going to work out really well for the wealthy/powerful.Bi_3 wrote:Or start a business setting up foreign companies. The net worth of all billionaires in the United States combined is about $2.5 trillion dollars. So assuming that the government could simply take every dollar of wealth each billionaire has (which as b_i laid it is not at all a realistic proposition for many reasons) that one time windfall could pay for about 6 months of federal spending at current levels.Bi_3 wrote:At this point I assume you're not ignorant just trolling, but whatever.
