Not even close, Wade Boggs number isn't retired yet. The Red Sox have one of the strictest set of rules for retiring numbers and Nomar doesn't really fit any of the criteria.

Wow. I didn't know what Boggs number was not retired. That is a shocker.
What is the criteria?

You have to retire as a member of the team. Boggs went out as a Devil Ray.

Actually it's 10 years with the team and a hall of famer.

Makes sense. I always wonder why you guys didn't retire Jim Rice's number sooner.
So #45 will never be retired for Pedro under these guidelines but he will probably go into the hall as a Red Sock? Interesting.

I bet they bend the rules for Pedro.

As they should.
Fred Lynn is another one that surprised me was not retired before reading that criteria.

I like the Red Sox having a strict criteria. It should be reserved for Hall of Fame worthy franchise players.

For a franchise like yours (compliment) it makes sense. So much history. I wanna say The Cardinals and Orioles have not retired many either.
It angers me the Rangers have not retired #7 for Pudge (Rodriguez) yet.

Me too, it's way better than having numbers 1-25 retired like the Yankees.

I think playing your entire career with the team is also a requirement, but they waved it for Fisk.

I think Clemens, Boggs, and Pedro should all have theirs retired.

Agreed. A bit excessive.

I don't think it was entire career, but retired with the team.

The White Sox just retire everyone's numbers. It's fucking silly.
In fact, them retiring Baines' number in 19fucking89 when they traded him is probably the single most egregious number-retiring in baseball history.
And then they gave him a fucking STATUE on the concourse. Luke Appling, Ed Cicotte, Ed Walsh, Ted Lyons...they don't have statues. But motherfucking Harold Baines does.

I'd like to see Boggs and Clemens both retired but that's all I can really think of.

The Rangers will probably retire Michael Young's #10.

They retired him after they traded him and he was still active? That is odd.
Luke Appling should probably have a statue. I'm assuming Aparicio and Nellie Fox do?
