Agree. I don't get it. Alexander Payne movies always feel very bland to me

I agree. Just watched Sideways again recently, and it has its moments but it's pretty boring overall.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Going into 2012, I have more movies on the list than any other year so far. Eighteen movies more than 2010, and fourteen movies more than 2011. But based on movies that I will be rewatching, it looks like the weakest year of the three. Hopefully some of the rewatches will bring me further enjoyment than what I got back in the day, and some of the unseen ones, will be way up there in the ratings.

Starting 2012 with:

Prometheus

There’s a few I have seen in the past two years as well, in the same format. Will not rewatch those now.

The Cabin in the Woods (not sure if it's 2011 or 2012, I've seen both, guess I'll go with 2011)

Never seen it before. Half an hour left, this has been good. I'm not too big on horrors usually, and my wife hates them, so not always easy to fit them in.

I would call Cabin in the Woods more of a satire than a horror movie. One I go back to from time to time but it's almost too clever for its own good for me to love it.

I see what you mean. I feared it would be just another straight horror movie, but it certainly was not.
