You need 12, I'd think

What I took away from that article was how lazy this band has become. BOB essentially said they would have finished a long time ago were it not for knowing they actually have to do stuff once its finished.

But the good news is that Pearl Jam doesn't seem to be "holding the members back" from doing their own things.

Everything you could ever dream of will be there...

Incredible enthusiasm!

I do know that for whatever reason, the songs weren't there previously. And we kind of had to wait for the songs to come. I don't know if that's any better or worse. Certainly not worse, but I don't know if it was any better for the time off. But it certainly worked out great. I can't complain about it
Great insights into the man behind the wondrous sonic sculpting!
How does the sound of this record compare to the previous one?

I'm terrible at stuff like that.
The promise of great depth on the new record!

This record has a few songs that have a bit more of a . . . they kind of . . . what's the word I'm looking for here? They're longer. [Laughs] I don't know if the word "depth" is right
Whatever this is!
We'd start at noon and say, "What have you got?" and we'd start working. We'd never do that now. That's for young people.
I like Pearl Jam, and I like this, too!
It's my job to help them put out a record where people say, "Oh, them. I love Pearl Jam! I'd forgotten how much I liked them. I like this stuff, too."
And an honest look at the impact of the band's solo efforts!
It means they can go work on their own and then come back and be really reinvigorated. Do you feel that way?
Um, yeah, sure. [Laughs]

So, no?

"In the early days of Vs. and Vitalogy there was a certain amount of everybody getting in a room and kind of jamming out. Now, it's pretty much everyone puts together songs, and they finish them together as a band."

From the comments page on RS:

"I agree Ten and VS are incredible. And actually, yes on Backspacer. i think it holds up with Ten and VS. It's very different, but you can tell the whole band is writing as compared with mainly one guy (Stone, for most of Ten and VS). Also, the band has said in interviews that Backspacer was the first album they approached with the idea of everybody bringing in material individually and then working on those ideas as a band in the studio as opposed to just showing up and coming up with ideas in the studio (Which seems to be what they did for most of the middle albums). i think the new approach is paying off and yes, i think it makes for a more complete and whole album then a lot of the middle records. Sounds like Lightening Bolt was made in the same way. And as far as the Avocado album, to my knowledge it was made unlike Backspacer. i still liked it. i'm a huge fan and i like all of their albums."

What an idiot....

Great interview, but pretty much confirms that these guys are just running a business at this point. Too bad they can't collaborate on music like they did on the first 2 albums anymore.

Yeah pretty much...

They've taken the Jam out of Pearl Jam. Though isn't this the way they've done shit since no code?

Do these guys hang out at all unless they're writing or touring? I wonder.

Even if this ends up being the worst Pearl Jam album ever (which, for the record, I don't think it will be), I have a feeling the most bothersome thing about it will forever be the amount of people who will refer to it as "Lightening Bolt."

I don't think they do, and that's been the case for a long time. So their stringent 'working plan' isn't as much laziness as getting as much done in the time they have when they meet together. Hence all that talk of 'efficiency' I guess.

I would bet that the wait between Lightning Bolt and album #11 will be longer than the turnaround between Backspacer & Lightning Bolt.
