Let us just count our blessings that there are still enough intelligent important people out there who do actually care about what matters, and point and laugh at the big stupid clown man because it's fun.tragabigzanda wrote:As a citizen of the US, I’ve got skin in the game, and I believe the codependent relationship between the media and the culture warriors is destroying our country, less by virtue of the direct impacts, but more by the fact that the prioritization of this shit effectively bumps broad-consensus issues to the bottom of the page.McParadigm wrote:You haven’t reached peak Internet until you’ve wasted time complaining about how other people waste their time on the Internet
Top page of every media outlet is covering Trump, book banning, drag Queen story hour. All of this stuff is retarded.
Hospitals. Jobs. Teacher salaries. Housing affordability. Immigration. These are the things that should be getting national coverage and driving conversations, but they’re not because everyone is hungry to see their specific worldview reflected all around them, and to crucify anyone who doesn’t hold the same worldview.
I could give a fuck how any of you spend your time at an individual level, but en masse, you are collectively eroding the national dialogue around the things that actually drive human dignity and individual liberty.
This is like complaining that too many people go to see the worst movies and it's drowning out the good ones. I agree, but you're just wasting your breath.

Crap, a podcast i listen to started talking about this and now I'm being pulled into The Discourse...
Is this 4D chess to elevate Trump to nomination, or 4D chess to have him under house arrest to elevate DeSantis¿
This one seems kinda flimsy compared to some of the other investigations.

Weight Loss Thread was kinda slowing down, so I figured the Running Thread = weight loss, so why not? It's not an exact match and anyway..... weight loss thread is really thriving now and the whole Board has never looked skinnier. Although we are all pretty hungry. lol.96583UP wrote:as an avid bicyclist (not cyclist, bicyclist) I should not be group in with the runners. i haven't run in prob a year. my knees feel better on a bike.Coach wrote:Earlier this winter, I asked the guys in the running thread if we could merge the weight loss thread into that one and the response was pretty negative. Activists. No one is neutral about Trump, and a single a aggressive anti-Trump juror could sway the whole thing.
Or so he would claim.

But this is actually more disturbing:
If the uncool cannot get adequate legal representation we are far closer to fascism than we might admit.

I sincerely doubt uncool is the enemy. My only complaint is inconsistency. If you're going to fight evil, don't stop with those representing Trump. Nonetheless, means do not justify ends, because ends are unpredictable and karma is a bitch.Bi_3 wrote:But this is actually more disturbing:

Re: The 45th POTUS - Donald J. Trump
Uncool is the term I used to not trigger our friends into attacking the word and not the implication of what is happening. The issue here is that the fundamental essence of justice in the US (and most common law nations) is the adversarial system. If system is gamed so that an ex-President becomes so toxic to a lawyers career that no firm large enough to handle the cases will take him as client, then the system falls apart because he cannot get adequate representation. I am in no way, at all, stating or implying that is currently the case as of 5pm EST on 17.April.2023, and clearly as of this date and time and for the immediate future, Trump can still get enough large enough firms to support his misdeeds. But there are folks actively pushing towards making representing him a career-ender.tree_ wrote:I sincerely doubt uncool is the enemy. My only complaint is inconsistency. It feels good to believe he's gonna get what he deserves, but once this is done there is nothing to stop it from filtering down to ever poor slob on street who does something to anger the dominant political class.

Slobs on the street get way worse legal representation than Trump. It feels good to believe he's gonna get what he deserves, but once this is done there is nothing to stop it from filtering down to ever poor slob on street who does something to anger the dominant political class.
