Luke Appling should probably have a statue. I'm assuming Aparicio and Nellie Fox do?
Yep. And let's be honest, look at his stats. He was mediocre. Rensdorf just loves him.
Aparicio, Fox, Fisk, Pierce, Minoso, Thomas, Konerko, Baines, and Comiskey all have statues.
Luke Appling is one of the two best White Sox players ever. Ted Lyons very well may be the third best. It's just silly.

Unfortunately for most organizations outside of the top 2 or 3 in each sport, unless they have strict rules, retiring numbers and building statues is nothing but a way to bump attendance. Case in point: Detroit Pistons.

Yeah. The thing that makes the White Sox retiring everyone's numbers and giving them all statues is that Reinsdorf also owns the Chicago Bulls, who seem to have the opposite approach.
White Sox - Three World Championships. Ten retired numbers. Eight statues
Bulls - Six World Championships. Four retired numbers. Two statues.

That being said, there really only need to be two Bulls with retired numbers.

Retiring Johnny Pesky's number was a ploy by the Red Sox to sell tickets.

Though I don't think Ron Washington is statue worthy I think the Rangers should retire his number. Fuck they retire Johnny Oates' number. Granted he passed away.

The Celtics are the kings of retiring guys numbers in this manner. Cedric Maxwell's number is retired.

Thomas and Dumars?
Those two I can justify. Laimbeer, Rodman and Vinnie Johnson? Not so much.

Seriously you guys are going to run out of numbers. Again, like the Yankees, with all that success it makes some sense I guess.
Not sure if I like him as an NBA coach but I love Stevens. Great college coach. Baby face assassin. I think he is destined for Indiana if/when the NBA does not work out.

Also, do you think Pedro is pissed about Jorge's fifth place vote costing him a unanimous win?
