Why Trump Is Right About Immigration

In his blunt and imprecise way, Trump has shifted the Overton window on immigration, borders, and national security. The fact that he did so insensitively and that his approach lacked nuance does not make his deeper observation and critique erroneous, however.

I was excited to read something that made me question my own views, especially since me and most of my family are immigrants, but IMO this article makes a really poor argument for why "Trump is right" about immigration; it's mostly concerned with making a bunch of obvious points about why "the US doesn't HAVE to do anything, the US doesn't HAVE to help anyone" with Constitutional and (frankly very flimsy) philosophical arguments. Then when it finally does start addressing specifics (like the study about ethnically diverse US neighborhoods), he offers skin-deep half-truths and doesn't pursue the more interesting line of questioning, like the relationship between ethnic diversity and poverty in US cities, and the causes of it. Also: I've seen this guy around Twitter. He's a Men's Rights Activist and one step short of a white supremacist. While that by itself doesn't invalidate any of the arguments in this article, it does cause me to chuckle at how hard he tries to separate himself from the "Alt Right".

The big thing that I think that article misses is the core reason why high immigration to the US happened late last century: there was work that needed to be done and people that needed work. The ironic thing about Trump harping about this is that since the Great Recession immigration from Mexico has actually been falling. I'm hoping it won't be much longer when this is an exploitable issue on the campaign trail.

Immigration from Mexico fell, but was there a net decrease in immigration from central/ south america? Specifying Mexico as the origin seems to be overly specific, possibly to mislead on overall trends. There may be a net decrease, but the uptick of central american unaccompanied minors seems fairly significant.

You make a valid point. However, Trump's not planning on building a wall between the US and Argentina and having them pay for it.

Huma Abedin was deposed in connection with a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit into Clinton’s emails — but her admission could be relevant to another lawsuit seeking Clinton’s schedules.

But Abedin’s admission that she used so-called “burn bags” — a container that material is placed in before it is destroyed — for some of her schedules is the first time anyone close to her has disclosed destroying public records.

A former State Department official told The Post it was unprecedented for a diplomat to destroy a schedule like this.

“I spent eight years at the State Department and watched as four US ambassadors and two secretaries of state shared their daily schedules with a variety of State Department employees and US officials,” said Richard Grenell, former diplomat and US spokesman at the United Nations.

“I’ve never seen anyone put their schedule in the burn bag — because every one of them had a state.gov email address and therefore their daily schedules became public records, as required by law.”

Others said Clinton’s careful approach to her schedule further highlights her recklessness in using a personal server for all her email communications.

“This shows, in my opinion, a skewed sense of security. The Clinton people would dispose of the secretary’s schedule in the same manner as if it were classified yet those same safeguards were not in place with regard to email communications.”

No indictment which shouldn't come as a shock especially after Slick Willie got some alone time with Lo Retta last week. I try to be an optimist so lets look at the bright side of things at least her health is very poor, she really is not well sooner or later the devil will come a calling.

I could understand that. I suspect a lot of people say that instead of "I don't like your choices, but I don't want to look like a bigot or an asshole. Just don't touch my money"
