Funny and sad at many points, stellar acting, but I struggled with it.

I understand that's it is about Ireland's internal conflicts (any country's I suppose) creating a kind of social poverty reflected in their relationship. Got that. I just couldn't get past the core point that they can suddenly stop being the closest of friends like that... it felt like they were forcing the metaphor.

Does it help if you look at more as a metaphor about a battle/struggle between our day to day lives, our relationships, and our legacies/what we leave behind?

That's what I thought it was about at first, but in retrospect those seem more like they were the underdeveloped subplots that were so frustrating because Gleeson is doing god-tier work in the film.

I'm just going on what the writer/director has said about the movie.

Wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong.

I definitely like where your head is at with the piece. That's where I went too. And I think it's honestly both. MM just doesn't like saying too much about what his stuff "means" because he wants people to take away whatever they want from it.

Watched this tonight. Loved it. The best of McDonagh’s stuff that I’ve seen.

It's a top three of the year for me. I absolutely adore it. But it also feels like it was tailor made for me. It's everything I love!

Tonight I watched X, which was a lot of fun (I'll watch Pearl tomorrow) and Decision to Leave, which immediately shot up near the top of my list of favorite movies of the year. Wonderful movie

Pearl is so much better than X. I was shocked on how good it is. Mia Goth should win every award possible.

I might watch DTL tonight.

Totally. I was excited for Pearl because I had so much fun with X, but it exceeded my expectations.

I'm also trying to get caught up on the new movies I missed this year, in anticipation of awarding my annual Golden Jorges. I watched Crimes of the Future yesterday, but didn't dig it. Too much of a flat affect, and, I don't know, maybe I'm not into enough weird sex stuff to get into it. Overall, I found it a bit tiresome. Not my cup of tea.

Decision to Leave is also on the docket for me tonight (It was only in the cinema here for a week so I missed it)

And, Lenny, you're just going to have to get used to the 4,5 instead of 4.5. it makes no sense and is obviously worse, but that's how many Europeans do math. It's a sad state of affairs
