I'll bite. I imagine it referring to consolidation of power. With the media in just a few hands, a two-party system, the power of the 1%, etc., it's far easier for a situation to emerge where the many pay for the few's mistakes. These days could mean "in this era."

experientially these days (the days you are living through) are the ones that matter

I think it makes sense for these days in particular when you think of where we are now in terms of climate change; we are careening towards the end of the planet; a handful of billionaires are causing it, and the same handful of billionaires could fix it, but instead they're blaming the poor for using plastic bags and the disabled for needing single-use plastic straws (and other products)
