3 division winners and 3 wild cards. In the WC round, Division Winner #3 plays WC #3, WC #1 and WC #2 play, and the two division winners with the best record get a bye to the divisional round.

The WC round is a best-of-3 series. I honestly don't know if the divisional round is still best of 5 or best of 7; I assume it's the former.

Also, no more play-in games for any position--if teams are tied, they go to tiebreakers (head-to-head, common opponents, etc.).
What a dumb system.
when they go to extra innings does the guy who gets put as a runner on 2nd base run in his socks or is he barefoot?

Can the wild cards all come from the same division? Or is just the top 2 teams in each division?

Yes, the wild cards can all come from the same division. I think I mean to add that.

I'm glad that it will be easier for the Red Sox to make the playoffs now, but I hate this. If this many teams make the playoffs, why are we still playing 162 games?

totally agree.

some traditional ideas (old school playoff formula) should stick around.

Yeah, don’t understand the need to play this many games now. When 4 teams made the playoffs it made perfect sense, now that it’s 12, you are getting into the same territory as the meaningless NBA regular season.

I think the playoff system they had most recently until this year was the best.

I was on board with that system as soon as the Sox won the WC game. Had they lost, I would've been dead-set against it.

Also, let's keep our eyes on Ceddanne Rafaela. Everything I had heard coming into this year was that he was a glove-first prospect who could use it as a carrying tool. This year, split between Greenville and Portland, he has the most extra-base hits in professional baseball.

That system, but with a 3 game WC series, would be my ideal system.

I had to google him and found this, looks like he is here to stay:

https://nesn.com/2022/06/check-out-this ... e-rafaela/

The 5-foot-8 utility man is slashing .324/.360/.981 with 14 home runs and 50 runs batted in across 60 games this season. He is eligible for the Rule 5 draft this Dec. if the Red Sox decide not to add him to the 40-man roster, something that is becoming ever-more unlikely.

No that would be worse. The chaos of the single game WC round is exciting and makes winning the division even more valuable.

Looks like Bello may make his MLB debut this week.

Saw him in Portland last year. Did well. High hopes for him.

Hype train. Clemens recently gushed about him. I guess his innings count might be an issue (most he's thrown in a year is 117, and he's already at 85 this year).

I am once again asking Chaim Bloom to set aside his pride and acquire an actual major league first baseman that can catch the balls that are thrown to him.

Another game lost because they don’t have a first baseman.
